Officially the RAM limit on the VGN-AR250g model is 2GB. And the official limit seems to be an actual limit.

    What imposes this limit?

The chipset is supposed to allow 4GB. Each SODIMM slot is said to allow only 1GB. But you can put a 2GB card in one slot and have everything work fine. When more than 2GB is installed the BIOS recognizes this. If 4BG (2GB+2GB) or 3GB (2GB+1GB) is installed the BIOS says 3GB. I think the SODIMMS are matched. They are at least from the same manufacturer. And the SODIMMS certainly each work on their own in both slots.

If more than 2GB is installed Windows XP seems to start up -- at any rate the startup sounds play -- but the screen goes blank.

    Explanations appreciated.

    Thanks
