Been using a new Sony VGN-AR290G for the last few weeks and just LOVE it.

However, I did notice that when I start the laptop after a weekend of non-use, the battery has drained to about
    65%. Is this normal?

The laptop is shutdown, before being stored in a case, and NOT placed in standby or hibernation mode.

    Otherwise, the laptop functions flawlessly.

Should I be concerned or is this normal for a Sony?

As you probably know, the AR series is renowned for having extrememly weak battery life. I have the AR21S (I think the UK equivalent of your model) and my battery lasts about 1.5 hours max.

Never noticed drops in battery life when it is switched off though.
