I saw this question was asked in the official "AW series owners thread". However, no particular answer was provided.

WinDVD (v9), PowerDVD (v8) and media files played with AC3 filter, all pass DD/DTS 5.1 sound through HDMI. Works great on my system.

However, uncompressed 5.1 stream and Dolby True HD will be downmixed to 2 channels. See the following post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4253619&postcount=1946
