    Hi,

I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-CR220E in January of 2008, and it's rated for "2 - 4.5 hours of battery life depending on usage". I averaged about 3 hours up until one month ago, when it suddenly became 30-45 minutes of battery life. My laptop now dies after a maximum of 45 minutes -- rendering it pretty much useless since I need to/like to use it away from power sources.

Nothing new has changed on the PC. No new hardware, software, all relevant spyware and virus scans turn up nothing, no damage, drops, spills or falls.

Not quite sure what it could be or how I should approach this problem. I do have the support plan through Sony - what could I expect if I reach out them?

I'm sure some of you have been in a similar situation so any guidance or insight would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

tell sony and maybe they will give you a new battery since it's been within 1 year warranty

That is, as far as I can see a battery failure.

On a Sony MP3 player I was told that there is a specific percentage of loss that is deemed acceptable per year, I think its less than 10%.

    However:
Your battery warranty isn't necessaryrily 1 year. In Germany you get 2 years of warranty on everything (law), the battery however, only gets 6 months worth of warranty.

(You could though buy, for example, a shops warratny extension - so Saturn in Germany is givin me 5 years of warranty in total on my MP3 player and DSLR camera, inlcuding the battery)
