My girlfriend received a Sony Vaio VGN-FJ170 for Christmas. Just this past week, she noticed a "blotch" in the screen. I am using the term blotch for lack of a better word. It's approximately 4-5 pixels round. It is most visible on a white background & looks to be an off-white color.
My first assumption was a dead pixel, but it is much larger than that. I did some googling and found a review on amazon that indicating the reviewer had purchased two of these notebooks and experienced "lcd burn" with both of them. I was unable to find any other similar reports.
After reading some more reviews...I see the LCD was given excellent ratings. Which brings up another issue. The LCD looks great (besides the blotch), but if you are looking at it from any kind of angle whatsoever, it looks absolutely terrible. My mother has a smaller series vaio and it doesn't have this problem.
Is this typical of these notebooks? Does the lcd have a problem? What exactly is the "blotch" and will it get worse? Should we send it back through Sony's warranty?
FYI: I informed her from day one how delicate LCD screens are. She is very careful with it and I am the only one that cleans it. I use bottled water and a soft microfiber towel.
I really appreciate any responses. Thanks for your help, Scott
