    Hey everyone,

I'm having a problem with a laptop. I've tried updating the drivers and updating the registry but the CD-ROM drive is still acting weird. The software from the sony support site actually made the issue worse because now the computer doesn't even recognize the drive (did the registry update). I am willing to go into the registry and try to undo the changes however I need to know where to look (so I'm not searching blindly). Further, I'm not really a fan of going into the registry and making modifications there. Open to any and all recommendations. Thanks!

That update just screws things up.

Just go to Device Manager, select your DVD drive, right-click on it and select Uninstall.

Then right-click on the computer (root) in Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes. It should install the drive again but this time it should work.

Hey levicki, tried that a couple of times and still no luck. When I click on properties this is what it is saying...

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Where do I go from here? The ironic part is, I tried to repair windows by using the OS disk during boot and it booted from the disk just fine, strangely though, there was no option to repair windows and I don't want to do a fresh install. So I know the drive works, just need to fix whatever is acting up in the registry I guess. I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks!

Well, I finally found a solution. Very simple actually. I just wanted to post the link here in case others have the same solution.

Just click on "microsoft fix it" and you should be good to go.
