I signed up just to ask this question: I was trying to play a recent Blu-Ray movie 'Taken' and the introduction screen notified me that my player was out of date.
After combing the Sony site and internet for several hours I cannot seem to find an update for the VGN-FW200 Intervideo WinDVD BD for Vaio software (even though this update is availible for other Sony Vaio laptops).
Anybody else encounter this problem?
Thanks!

According to the website, that model only has the CD/DVD drive. Therefore no blu-ray player update. Sure you have the right model number?
-
You can install WinDVD update from any FW models. They are all the same. Just install the latest one. It's from March I believe.

You just reminded me that this model was a Best Buy exclusive during Black Friday last year. The casing says VGN-FW200 on the outside but it comes with a Blu-Ray player and some other upgrades.
I've downloaded a WinDVD BD update for VGN-FW's in general and it corrected the problem.
Thanks for the help guys! -
Does the Intervideo BD drive make noise and vibrate empty on booting up the laptop?
Does it take several hits on the button to get the tray to open, even when empty?
A friend has asked me to find out if her noisy Sony BD drive is normal but I have no experience with Blu-ray at all.
Are all BD drives noisy when empty on boot-up? Do they vibrate the laptop, she asks? Do they take several minutes to "settle down" when playing a disk?
Any one know if this is a Sony peculiarity or a function of the construction of Blu-ray drives in general? I have a DVD drive that's silent on boot-up so her question took me by surprise
Thanks for any assistance with this question. I'll pass it on.... -
Mine is quiet - nothing like you mention. Plays CD/DVD and BD all the same. Opens fine. Sounds like you friend has something wrong with her drive.

It doesn't vibrate when it's empty. When booting up, it still makes a light noise but you only hear it if you pay very close attention in a very quiet room.
No, only one hit when ejecting the drive. The one that requires several hits are probably the Z and SR series. The eject buttons of Z and SR series are tiny. They are almost flat so they require your finger nail to press them. The FW eject button is bigger and sticks out so you it should only requires a light press with your index finger.
Depending on the movies, BD disc takes a bit longer to load. This is normal. It is normal for BD and DVD to vibrates when you first load the disc. But once the movie plays, it should make little to no noise. -
YES!!! I can finally watch Fight Club. For anyone that owns the VGN-FW200 with the bluray player upgrade and is having a hard time watching new discs do the following:
1. Go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/se...2,46,13,105,6,85,3,36,9,51,47,38,4,34,37,43,5
2 the link should take you to the sony site where I ran an auto detect of my model and to my surprise the Model VGN-FW245J showed up.
3. Select the Driver& software optiom
4. near the bottom of the screen you will find an update for winDVD that offers the following file.
Filename :
ITAOTH-00215761-1060.EXE
Version :
8.0.20.169
Last Modified :
01/08/2010
Size :

5. DOWNLOAD and enjoy! HAHAHAHA they need to make this damn stuff easier.
