A friend that I often play older games with, like Diablo II and Starcraft mentioned that he was having an issue with his laptop the other day. When he launches one of those games it only shows up in a small box in the middle of the screen. He assumed this problem was because of Vista, but I also have the exact same version (Home Premium) and everything runs fine and in full screen.

I decided it might be something with his chipset, since he only has integrated graphics (Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset). Sure enough his drivers weren't updated, but once I fixed that it still wouldn't run in full screen. I then tried to match the in-game resolution with the desktop, and this is where I think I found the real problem. On this laptop when the screen resolution is changed, the screen itself resizes.

I can't seem to find a way around this, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strange one alright, try right clicking on the game shortcut and set it to run maximised, in compatibility mode, as administrator.

Also check for a config file in the game folder to see if you can change some values to get it running in fullscreen mode.
