I noticed you can order this laptop now on sonystye. Maybe someone could answer a few questions...

    Is that white or silver?

There is an option to configure the WXGA screen with as (HC) w/ CMR or (EEBR) w/ CMR for $50 more. Anyone know what these acronyms stand for? The more info link doesn't give a clue.

    Thanks!

I spoke to Sony Support today about the same issue. It turns out that HC stands for High Color and EEBR stands for Eco-Brite. Both are based off XBRITE tech but HC is recommended.

Looks like a good system for the money, like getting a free Blu-Ray burner.

You might also want to consider the Compal IFL90. Should be around the same price and has options like 7200rpm drives, tv tuner and an HD DVD drive. But this Sony is looking pretty solid. The Compal comes out in about a month. The Sony is available right now. Depends on your priorities. Any body want to buy a photo plotter? I need the money to send to Sony for an FZ.

White keyboard looks good if the rest is white (Mac), but gets real dirty. I'm going with the black on silver.

I just found out the Sony is "out of stock" meaning it is in fact not yet shipping.

compal is my other choice but it is a 2.9kg notebook...
    so i'd prefer the ift00 that is 14" but 2.5kg ...
another questiom do you think that sony will continue with the fe series?
because the fe series has the 7600go instead at the moment fz series will have only 8400m

You can call Sony Style and get better information on availablity and ship dates.

Blu-ray is great for backups, holding 5 times that of DVD (4 Blu-rays vs 20-25 DVDs to backup a loaded 100GB harddrive).

You can play prerecorded Blu-ray discs on the laptop. The resolution is not nessasarily 1080P, but will look great on a 15" screen, or you can output it to an HD TV and get up to full 1080P (depending on the TV).

You may also be able to author Blu-ray video discs if you have the right software on the computer that you can play on a Blu-ray player in your entertainment system (if that player can play BD-R or BD-RW).

dude the FZ series is in fact a FE refresh so the 8400m GT is kickin your 7600's butt ! actually 8400M GT has 256Mb (is more like a 7700) while the 7600 only 128Mb !
