    Hi all,

Im thinking of purchasing the VGN-FZ38M in the UK I understand that it has a GeForce Go 8400M for the graphics card.

Would this be enough to play games such as HL2, Counter-Strike Source and TF2 on HIGH?

As well as BF2 on medium/high?

Im wanting this laptop because I think it would suit my needs for college as well as abit of gaming while Im away from home which will play the odd game of CSS or HL2....

    Thanks in advance!

It'll run them, but probably not on the highest settings. You might want to look into an 8600M if you want to run comfortably.

My desktop (in signature) can max out HL2 and CS:S when it isn't trying to load the map lol, due to my crappy processor and minimal RAM. Haven't tried TF2 or BF2 because I don't have enough RAM to run those, but I would imagine that you would only be able to do a max of medium on those, since TF2 is a "new" Source game. FYI, the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro came out in 2002 and it prob. gets ~200 3DMarks in '06. I should bench it lol.

BF2 most likely wouldn't be able to run on high, I can almost guarantee that.
However it will most likely run on med

I actually own a FZ15G an earlier version of what you are looking at. It easily hands Half Life 2 and will run BF2 with most setting on high (can't do anit-aliasing too well though) at 30FPS. Team Fortress 2 I am unsure about.

I have an 8400m GT and run all those games maxed, aside from anti-aliasing, with no overclock. I think it would be the perfect card for you and is a common gpu in Vaio's. The 8400m GS will run BF2 and TF2 on medium high settings at 1280 or 1024 res depending on the framerate.

Ran 'em all maxed stock too. Don't know what the others are talking about... Again, no experience with the actual card.

A GS will still run CSS maxed with 4xAA. Even, my go7200 did w/ no AA

With OC you can run all those games listed on high x2AA

Those are the exact 3 games i have installed on my notebook.
