I've acquired a N110E from a friend and am getting it set up as an email checker/web browsing machine for my mom. Ive added a Kingston 64GB ssd and changed from 512mb to 2gb of ram. I can't get the FN keys to work, nor the scrolling function of the touch pad to work.

The FN's for volume work, but not brightness.

The touchpad works, but doesnt scroll. The user manual shows the touchpad as being capable of scrolling via the touchpad.

I've gone to the Sony support site and tried to download the Win7 Synaptics Pointing Device Center Driver (9.1.13.0) and it doesn't change anything. I also tried downloading the Win7 VAIO Launcher Software (3.0.0.07150) for the function keys and it also changes nothing. Both of these needed to be run in Vista compatibility mode to install. It says they install correctly, but they have no effect.

I tried installing the Vista versions for the pointing device which is an Alps Pointing Device Driver (7.0.501.8) and the Vista Sony Notebook Utilities (1.0) which includes VAIO Launcher and seven other programs. Both installed in compatibility mode, but didn't seem to install anything.

I got the VAIO Control Center to install as the user manual says to use that to set mouse preferences. It lets me get to the advanced options, but doesn't have anything other than the standard "wheel" tab that lets me set vertical/horizontal scrolling notches. It shows the pointing device as being an Alps pointing device, but let's me edit it's settings as a Synaptics.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either of these?

    > Both installed in compatibility mode

This suggests to me that there's a mismatch somewhere.

A quick search leads to this link that has the drivers for your model that you may have seen previously. I suggest starting with all the original drivers before upgrading them one at a time.

    Perhaps you're mixing 64 bit and 32 bit OS/drivers?

That link takes me to model VGN-FE770G.

I started out only using the ones listed under Windows 7 32. They didn't work. I tried to run them and I get a pop up that says that it's only compatible with Vista and windows gives me a pop up saying that it may have installed incorrectly, do O want to reinstall using recommended settings (changes compatibility I Vista). So I removed them and install the Vista 32 ones. They also didn't work so I removed and tried to use the XP drivers. Same thing.

Found a Original Function somethinsomethin download that got my function keys to work right. Apparently Sony doesn't support scrolling (they can't/won't guarantee it or the function key shortcuts will work) in models earlier than 2008 for Windows 7..

Ninja edit: got touchpad scrolling to work. Uninstalled windows 7 synaptics driver, rebooted, touchpad was completely disabled this time. Downloaded the vista Alps drivers, set to vista compatibility mode, windows said this driver had known functionality and recommended I don't install it. Chose to install anyways, rebooted and works like a charm!
