My family is buying my sister a new laptop for Christmas. She's had horrible experiences with Dell, HP and Toshiba and will not go back. She used a Sony VGN-NS135E/S at work for a short time last year and liked it. Is this a decent laptop? This will be used for Office, internet, music and photos. The most important thing is that it hold up for 2-3 years.

Specs: T3200, 3Gb ram, 250gb hd, Vista premium.

Does the T3200 come in both Dual Core and Core 2 Duo? On Amazon they list it as Core 2 Duo for $679. On P.C. Richard it's $599 (after $150 MIR) but it's listed Dual Core.

Thanks for any help on this. I've searched this site and the web and have not found many reviews at all.

Well I found reviews of the N series, specifically the NS130E/W, and it doesn't seem very impressive. The search continues.

I think I mixed up some reviews and confused the NS135 with the NS130. So actually I still can't find any reviews of any substance anywhere. If anyone has any thoughts on this model (the NS135) I'd appreciate hearing them.

    Thanks very much.

I have a VGN-NS135E and have absolutely no problems with it. It's nice and fast. Has plenty of memory. The screen in a nice size. Only problem IMO is the crap Sony Vaio software preinstalled with it and the battery life isn't so great, but for $550 (Circuit City), I'm not really complaining

Thanks for the feedback bayrider. $550 seems like a great deal. She's planning to dump everything and install Linux so maybe this will work out.

How about an extended warranty? My sister has been very unlucky with laptops so we're actually considering getting a 3 year warranty. Any idea about the track record with this model? I appreciate the help.
