Hey all...I've been using a S270 since 2005, and I'm still pretty fond of it. It's not my primary computer (I use a desktop at home), but I use it a lot on the road.

The performance has ineveitably slipped a bit over the years, and the fan has always made a racket. I've already slipped in more memory to bring it to 1 GB, and replacing the hard drive seems like a serious operation where I'd have to essentially take the unit apart. Any other ideas for bringing the unit's performance up without spending that much?

    Re-install Windows.
That alone will make a big difference if you haven't done so.

I suppose I should. But then I have to put all the programs back together again. It's a hassle.

Unfortunately, you can spend hours re-installing or twice as many trying to clean it out and likely not end up with good results (trust me, it's never as good).

Also, clean out the fan assembly, or better yet, replace it (Ebay). Max out the memory as well. It will run like a champ when you are finished.
