    Hi There!

I have been having a DEVIL of a time getting a battery for my notebook.

On the battery already in it, which is working but that doesn't last long lately, it says it's a VGP-BPS2 11.1v/4800mAh. I ordered these from Ebay, they match in specification perfectly but won't charge and gives a warning in windows about compatibility. I tried two in case it was a fault but no luck!

Genuine Battery SONY VGN-SZ VGN-FE VGP-BPL2 VGP-BPS2 - eBay, Batteries, Laptop Accessories, Computers. (end time 31-Jul-10 13:34:09 AEST)

Could someone tell me what I need to do to find a proper battery, that isn't the $400 one from Sony!

disable isbmgr.exe in msconfig to get rid of the warning/no charge.

If you want a new one, call sony parts. they stock them.

    Hi There!

Thanks for the reply. Is that all that is required to make it work? It will charge and work correctly after just removing that file? Seems bizarre.

Not sure it is all that is required, but probably is. First step in using OEM battery is always to turn off Sony's own utility that prevents the use of OEM battery.

BTW, you can use any of the BPS2 (BPS2A, BPS2B, & BPS2C) for your VGN-S.

Actually whilst it's not giving an error, and is indeed showing as charging in Windows XP, it seems unable to get past 88% charged.

    Any further ideas?

Not sure. I don't think VGN-S got the battery care function that allows you to only charge to 80%. I would try a couple full discharge-recharge cycles to see if that improves anything. Otherwise, I guess it's the luck of the draw for an OEM battery.
