    Hi,

I have SR490PBB bought from CDW last week and its recovery partition that contain Window XP has been deleted. Of course, I didn't create my discs as I was stupid. I tried to get support from Sony and it is not covered under warranty  and they have hard time getting Recovery Discs as they said it new model.

If any of you have VGN-SR490PBB, can you please help me get recovery discs. I think it will work for me too. I really need and want Window XP.

    Thanks. :)

Didn't the SR490PBB came with Windows Vista Business preinstalled with an option for the Windows XP Professional downgrade? If that is the case, the recovery partition contains Windows Vista Business & not Windows XP professional. I believe you should have the Windows XP Professional downgrade disc in the package.

Window XP is pre-installed on harddisk in recovery partition. Recovery DVD it comes with it has Window Vista Business but no Window XP. There is no Window XP downgrade disc.

This is interesting. I think maybe Sony has just very recently changed the way they ship out the new Vaio notebooks. For Windows Vista Business + Windows XP Professional downgrade, Sony used to ship out the Vaio notebooks with Windows Vista Business installed (& on the recovery partition) & include a Windows XP Professional downgrade disc. Now it is the other way around based on your description.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to help you out further because I don't own a Vaio SR notebook. Hopefully, a fellow NBR member who owns the exact same model will be kind enough to help you out. Good luck. :)

Beside recovery disc, I have another question or help. I posted on SR owner thread and no one is replying. MY SR490 DVD rom drive is in contact with table and rubbing the table when opening and closing it. The drive bezel is hitting table once it is opened. Is it normal? Thanks.

Hi, this thread has to be closed because it is against the forum rules to post asking for oem software on this board.
You could try and buy a retail XP version disc if Sony cannot help you with this.
