    Hi,
I used a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ650n laptop for almost 3 years without any problem and now when I turn it on it shows a message on "Smatr failure predicted" and when I continue (just pressing F1) windows loads but sometimes the system shuts down without any warning.
so I thought to replace the HDD.
I have a SATA II hdd (I use this as an external drive) and thinking to use it as a replacement. But my laptop specification gives it supports SATA disks. Since I am in SriLanka and Sony doesn't give customer support in my region I am very helpful if you could give me your kind opinions..
    thanks

SATA II HDD works well on PC which supports only SATA I. But I thinks your SZ supports SATA2 as well. Anyways, you can replace your HDD with the external one.
