    Hi all,

I just bought the Vaio VGN-SZ280P couple weeks ago. Very often if I put it into standby or hibernate mode, later on after I resumed it back, do some works and then do the normal Windows shutdown, it gives me a blue blank screen with nothing except the mouse.

I can still move the mouse, but nothing else. I tried ALT_CTL_DEL and everything, no response at all. The only thing I can do is to hold the power button for couple seconds to force it to turn off.

Has anyone have such an experience? Do you know what's wrong and how can I solve it?

    Many thanks!!

    Hi merlin csc,

Have you done a full system restore using the restore discs you should have created when you bought the system?

You've only gotten the computer for two weeks so I would suppose you're not too entrenched in it yet.

You shouldn't be having such issues after your restore. (Do not install other drivers for 3rd party devices yet.)

If you still do...bring it to Sony Tech support. Something's wrong with your computer...

This problem was addressed here. You can either download the hotfix from that thread or on Sony's esupport website.

I had another problem on my SZ-110 Notebook. This problem is not the same as explained in topic pointed by bogard. The problem is in Resuming Windows from standby but not in going to Stand-By or Hibernate.

For me it was started when I installed drivers for Creative Audigy 2 NX (USB model of Audigy). Later I uninstalled this drivers, but strange behaviour of resuming Windows still present. Today, after many experiments with drivers for other devices I have found that Creative’s drivers still present in “Non Plug & Play Drivers” section which display if I select “Show Hidden Devices” in device manager. Now I deleted all Creative’s drivers and have no problems with resuming Windows back.

I don’t exactly know how long this solution will help me, because I tested it for a few hours. But I had 10 or more hibernate/resume iterations on various sofware/harware states.

And one more thing. I have found another solution which seriously reduce count of bad resumes. It is uninstall of Toshiba Bluetooth Stack.

I have the VGN-FZ27 (I live in China, and bought it there) and have the same problem; I downloaded the Hotfix and still have the problem. Any other ideas how to resolve it?

I should point out I'm running XP Professional.
