My gf's VGN-SZ320CP fan stopped working, the cpu and gpu goes to 100 degree.

I wonder if you guys have experience on replacing the fan of this laptop.
Where can you get the fan? From the manual found in this forum, it appears the fan is attached to the motherboard, so is it possible to pull the fan off the motherboard?

    Thank you.

it's not permanently fixed to the motherboard as such, it does come off...but it's not easy getting to it. The FAN on my SZ is faulty now, it clatters as if its touching the sides as it spins, extremely noisey but it's still working in relation to extraxting the heat.

I have looked for months for this FAN as a spare part, very rare! And in my opinion very dificult to replace even if you had the correct part. Sorry I cant be of much more help, it's one of the worst components that can go wrong on a SZ...

    Crap.

Is it possible to replace it with generic fan? or similar fan?
The fan can be taken off the heat sink, right?
I can get a generic fan for like 5$ where sony wants to charge me $120 + shipping.

    Good job, sony.

Ok, I took apart 30% of the laptop, then I stopped, because I found out that I have to take apart 98% of the laptop in order to access to the fan, which I couldn't do in my work place. I estimate about 2 hrs work to take apart everything and remember how to put everything back together.

Good job on hiding the easiest broken part of the laptop in the deepest area, then suggest people to replace the whole laptop when the fan is broken, Sony.

btw, the fan is 2 wires mini plug.
