Is there any difference at all? I was comparing thes two models and the specs seem identical.
-
The only two differences that I could find are:
1. Black Carbon Fiber (470) vs Premium Black Carbon Casing (491)
2. DVD drive - everything is the same except two things. 491 drive does NOT write on DVD-R DL (on + it writes !) and it reads DVD-RAM media on 5X speed (compared to 2X on 470 and other models). Now I'm wondering is it just typing error or is it really different DVD drive.. -
Usually the last designation letter B or C represent the types of the lid for screen. So I was curious about the X. Also the specification tabs on the Sony U.S site shows exact matches for the lid and even the DVD drives.

I just found out that the difference is the lid. The one has carbon lid and the other has premium housing. But the price difference is too much for it.
-
That's what I've said, wasn't it ?

You are the man.

Is there any more difference other than the lid type and the DVD driver? Someone mentioned that the LCD screen might have X-black or something.
-
I dont believe that there are any more differences.
EverySony model that's on the market today has X-Black screen. That's just their marketing term, same as ColorShine, CrystalShine, UltraSharp, SuperBrite, CrystalView, UltraVivid, etc. in other laptop manufacturers.
Some of them (premium SZs, TX and UX series) have X-Black with LED backlight, some of them have X-Black with double-lamp backlight (AR, FE) and rest have regular single-lamp X-Black LCD.
