Hi guys,
I just purchased a Vaio SZ58GN (which I believe is the same as the SZ6 because it's running the Santa Rosa platform with the T7700) in Hong Kong and brought it over here to Canada. I've been trying to do a clean install of Vista Ultimate but I've been having major problems, even following the multiple guides that have been posted. Basically here's what I've done:
Saved the C:\Windows\Drivers of the original Sony install
Saved the C:\Program Files\Sony of the original install
Wiped the C: drive and installed Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Installed the drivers out of the Drivers folder I saved
But here are my problems:
1) Brightness FN keys do not work
2) Stamina does not work - the display doesn't show after I tried installing the Intel drivers
3) Unable to find the Sony Control Centre to allow me to control the wireless LAN and Bluetooth settings
4) Unable to program the S1/S2 buttons
Any suggestions? I'm desperate now... I've been at this for 2 days without stopping, and I typically don't have problems doing clean installs... it's all this Sony proprietary stuff that's killing me...
Thanks!!
Zeph

Haha...i am in the exact same boat as you...well for the most part.
I have a VGN-SZ58GN From HK as well brought back to Canada and I made a recovery disk and wiped the drive clean to install Vista Ultimate too.
In my device manager i have 4 errors.
1) Fingerprint Sensor
2) Mass Storage Controller
3) Unknown Device
4) Unknown Device
-All the FN keys work except for brightness?
-S1 & S2 not working.
-Vaio Control Center Missing
-Camera Driver Installed But Vaio Camera Capture Utility says no input.
-Fingerprint Driver And Program Missing
I installed all the drivers from the recovery disk already.
Sony Asia does not have a full set of drivers...in fact they only have new drivers so i am kinda stuck now. I previously had an SZ2 and did not have any problems like this....but then again the sony site had all the drivers.
I don't really want to wait for Sony to upload the drivers cause it could take forever...any ideas?
Hey Zeph any chance you could upload the drivers that you saved from the original install to somewhere like Rapidshare? If i had the drivers i think i could work it out...reinstalling my old SZ used to be a breeze. Sony usually requires a specific order when reinstalling fresh with a mixture of utilities and drivers...curious did you get from Sony Store HK?
Thx =)
EDIT: SZ6 drivers don't work for this machine for the most part and if forced to install the machine becomes very unstable and extremely slow. -
You guys did the same mistake of loading the drivers from the c drive. You have to manually download the drivers (exe files) and then install them one by one. Some dll files are not present in the windows\drivers
