I have just recently bought that VAIO. The laptop was messed up with the software and the previous installation of xp and would not boot to windows.

I have made a clean installation of win xp after reformating and now i'm in the stage that i need to install the drivers.

I have found the downloads for this model:

    http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/product/vgn-tx27gp/modelfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i

and more specific the original drivers:

    http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/52338/product/vgn-tx27gp?site=hp_en_AP_i

However, of all these drivers i'm lost as to which ones i really need and which ones are just sony programs.

Apart from the usual drivers of all the hardware does sony uses any system drivers that need to be installed like for example dell is using their own system drivers?

Most of the items with the word driver behind are drivers. You'll need all of them.

Sony programs that you may not need depending on your usage:
Sonicstage - personally i think it is crap
    Picturegear studio - likewise
Music server controller - not sure if anyone uses it
Battery check - optional, it checks whether yours is original sony batt. don't think you need it.
    OpenMG - I don't think anyone needs this. Sony's proprietory DRM/copyright protection.

Not sure what PX engine is. My TZ did not come with it.

You should install all the drivers first, until there are no exclamation marks on your device manager list. Then carry on with the applications.

I suppose all the drivers required are listed.
