    Hi all,

I've pretty much made up my mind to buy a VAIO VGN-TX3XP - mainly because there seems to be nothing else as small and light on the market. Together with battery-life, those are my main concerns.

I only really need it for word-processing on the move, so CPU power isn't a big issue.

Although I've found 4 or 5 website reviews - all fairly positive - I'd really like to know of any experiences that actual users have had.

The only thing I really dislike about it so far is the junk that Sony pre-install.

I'll be buying a UK model and I'm not sure if BlackG35's excellent semi-restore tutorial will work with it.

I'm particularly curious about the reliability of this range, as the 1 year guarantee is pretty pathetic for a laptop costing £1,699.00 and it seems there are no on site repairs in the Sony Style shops here - I'd have to send the machine God knows where to get it fixed.

Browsing in my local Sony Style shop this afternoon I noticed ads claiming that Vista was installed on all the TX3XP's - but the staff assured me that this wasn't so; that you merely had the option to upgrade XP after purchase.

So I want to buy soon before they do put Vista on everything. I doubt the TX3XPs' specs are up to running Vista and I certainly don't want it anyway.

Many thanks for any accounts of expriences with this or similar models.

I have the TX3HP and it's been great, probably my favourite laptop so far. It doesn't feel flimsy but i worry slightly about it's strength because it feels so light and thin, but so far it's remained in perfect condition despite me carrying it around most days :)

Thanks for the reply. How do you find the keyboard? I could only type to a blank screen with no visual feedback because the shop staff claimed no battery was available.
