I hope you all discuss here with me, which drivers we really need for Windows7 Final, x64..
I`m happy to get the Microsoft Action Pack, and get Win7 x64 Ultimate within the MAPS Package.
It seems than Windows 7 brings many drivers, that works well - no need for installing all Software, which are suggestet here:

My first challange was to get Dualboot WinXP, and Win7x64 to work.
Short solution for the EFI GDT Problem![]()
//Edit: see http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5378195&postcount=4 for a better way (with advanced Menu)
(only needed for x64, if you doesnt want to format your disk)
Create 3 folders c:\efi-iso c:\efi-exe c:\efi-dvd
Download oscdimg.exe from ( http://blog.aproductofsociety.org/files/oscdimg.exe) into c:\efi-exe
Extract iso using 7Zip or WinRAR (Or copy the contents of the DVD) into c:\efi-dvd
Start up a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Type: cd c:\efi-exe
Type: oscdimg -n -m -bc:\efi-dvd\boot\etfsboot.com c:\efi-dvd c:\efi-iso\Win7X64.iso"
Burn this ISO, and Boot from - this ISO force now the EFI Mode for x64
Back to topic - setting up Windows7 x64 with all actual drivers.
Get all Vista 64x Drivers from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNZ690&SelectOS=36
Extract them with:
Universal Extractor
http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=641
Now Unextract them - and get to search drivers to all error market deviceson the extractet folders of the drivers...
Clear steps till here - but now - which (Sony-)software and drivers - we really need..
Its easy now to Setup all things an get them to work
But which Sony Software we could left out? How could we get a best working configuration?
Thanks for your Input.
Please excuse my bad english
//EDIT: Why x64? Together with enabling VT ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=423082) you get much more Perfomance inside Vmware

Installed like described above - all things work, FN Keys and so on..
But: the Smart Network Utility disable the UMTS/HDSPA Modem after 20 seconds :-( Reenabling it, only helps for 20 seconds again.
Anyone could help me out at this point? -
I found in another Thread the link to the newest Vaio Drivers:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=421884
There is a link to the Sony FTP Server:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL
Now all things works well - but here seems nobody interesstet, to discuss which Sony Software we could leave away?!
Anyway, with the Sourcen inside this Thread, now everybody could get the newest Drivers for x64 -
To void EFI detection and GPT enforcement, I just enable the hidden advanced menus in BIOS and press F1 when the VAIO logo is up while booting. From the boot manager menu select the optical drive instead of the acpi option. In such case Windows setup program will not detect EFI, hence will not enforce GPT. This eliminates the problem of mass BSODs.

Could you please explain how to make the brightness adjustment hotkey work under nVidia graphics card (speed mode)? Thanks!

Many thanks for your input, other z Users would help this much. F1 i nowhere see documented..
Brightness-Switch is the doenst work for me too, i try 3 installations tonight (imaging) - it doent come to work. Im glad that i use the z always in Stamina mode...
Only one question is left for me: how to get GPS enabled? And how to see incoming SMS, my Provider send me?
I use the WWAN_CONNECTION_MANAGER_OPTION_2.3.0.630, see that there is an 4.x Version - but in my Tests i was not happy with.
Maybee you have tipps for that too? -
For me, everything worked just fine (Beta1, 7100, RC - all x64) until the final release of Win7 that I got from MSDNAA. Now I get like 10 BSODs per hour, everything's crashing (and it was a clean installation).

With the drivers above, all work stable for me, execpt the Brightness Keys
-
So where are the newest ones?
And are you talking about brightness control in speed mode only, or generally?
thx -
I used ALL the official x64 Vista drivers from:
http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/product/vgn-z46gd/modelfirst
Except the Graphics card and Intel Chipset Drivers, and it is working fine for me.
