    Hello all,

I'm having quite an odd issue with my Sony Z-Series VGN-Z690C laptop. On occasion, when started while not plugged in (on battery power), it will hang while booting at the Windows Vista loading screen. The bar at the bottom of the screen will continue to move (it doesn't freeze entirely) but it never seems to progress past this screen. Sometimes performing a hard reset will allow my computer to progress past the loading screen into Windows (where everything works fine); sometimes it will repeatedly refuse to boot until I plug it in (at which point it boots fine). When this problem occurs seems to have no relation to how full the battery is; also, every time I can recall the problem occurring the notebook has been in Speed mode, but I'm not entirely sure it's never happened in Stamina mode.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this sort of bizarre behaviour? I've searched the forums a few times, but I've not managed to find anything that seems to match these symptoms.

    Thanks,

Anybody? It's continuing to happen, and I can't find anything sort of commonality that might explain it. Anybody have any ideas for tests I could run, or anything?
