Hi Folks
4 days ago I received my VIAO FZ4000 CTO with the following configuration
Component: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT
Component: LCD 15.4" WXGA (XBRITE-HiColor) with integrated video camera
Component: DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive
Component: 250GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [5400 rpm] [Regular price $200]
Component: 3 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR-667, 2GBx1 + 1GBx1) [Regular price $100]
Component: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium with Service Pack 1
Component: Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz)
I am debating whether it was good choice that I made... Here is why
1. The colors don't look natural. Any recommendations as how I can fix it. I have increased the Gama setting to 60. Does any one have an ideal setting that they share?
2. The brightness settings don't get saved. So each time, I reduce the brightness (BTW X-Brite HiColor is too bright for my eyes) and restart the machine the brightness goes back to maximum. Is there a way to keep the brightness setting saved.
3. What the heck was Sony thinking when they made the default page was set to Sony. Even after changing the page (including reset all options in IE) it goes back to Sony Viao page. Do we have Microsoft II here![]()
Sony's support (chat) are really ignorant at best. I had a support guy insisting that I had Windows Vista Business when I had Vista Home Premium.!!!
Any recommendations are welcome. If I cannot fix all of this in a week, I may return the laptop
Thanks

I can't really help on the brightness and color issue because I prefer them like that (more like hd tv) as for internet explorer, just download firefox, or even better firefox 3 beta. So far I really like it.

Yes, the HiColor screen color would take a while before you can get used to. The color of video is easier to adjust since Nvidia provides the utility to adjust the saturation. Unfortunately, there is no utility to adjust the saturation of the desktop.
You can, however, download PowerStrip http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm
It has the desktop saturation sliding bar for each color component (RGB). So, that might do the trick. -
To keep the brightness setting, you need to change it in the power profile you use. The default VAIO Optimized profile has brightness maxed out for both battery and plug-in, so everytime you reboot the brightness goes back to full force.
As for the IE thing, the other way around is to do a clean install or semi-clean install. I did the semi-clean install the first day I received mine. So far so good.
