Hi folks !
As I've cracked my hd+ panel up, I decided to order to a LT131EE11000.
After replacing the panel, I faced a big issue as there were no backlight on my brand new panel !
I tried to switch back to the old one but it turned out that it wasn't shining anymore too !!!
I contacted guys at Laptop Screens | Laptop Screen | Replacement Laptop Screens to explain my problem.
They said me I had probably fried up some SMD on the MoBo !![]()
Does someone figures out what should I do to resolve this ?

Sounds like you have blown the fuse on the motherboard. Take some detailed photos of the motherboard (both sides), specifically areas near the LCD connector. Someone will chime in here and point you to the tiny fuse and how to repair it.
-
Thank you for the answer, but
I have to admit that it puzzles me a bit, you think there is a fuse only for the backlight. I mean, I know there is a fuse for the main power supply (a white one located underneath the mobo).
In fact my laptop can run, the only thing is that I have no more backlight on my screen ( i can see a very dim picture on the panel by lighting it with a light torch )
It would be really nice if you guys could help me fix this. -
Could be the inverter or could be something like this:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/510777-dark-screen-not-inverter-backlight.html -
Yep, I had the idea the idea to check for the magnetic switch. I can turn the laptop to sleep by placing a neodymium magnet in front of it, is it enough to say that it is not the origin of my issue ?
-
I've replaced the screen on my Z1 and disconnected it twice. It should be relatively straightforward to replace the screen with one of the same type.
As I understand it, the FHD screens need more power to display at the same brightness than the smaller screen. Smaller mesh due to the smaller pixels or something. There was a youtube video on it somewhere.
I'm guessing the new screen pulled too much juice and burnt something out. (stop being right, Beaups, geez).
Only other thing I can think of would be clipping one of the wires on the VGA cable. They are very delicate. I stressed on whether I would damage one during my transplant.
My Z1 is disassembled right now, so take some pics and I'll do a comparison for you.
You can fake putting the machine to sleep with a magnet. Run a neodymium magnet across the lower part of the palm rest. The magnet doesn't need to be very powerful, so don't use anything too strong. -
Thanks for your interrest,
I'm back with some pics

What should I show you more ? -

It should work now...going to bed...
-
I have circled the fuse with RED.
It is blown.
-
^ Is that user serviceable?
Saw the pic with your cracked screen. Same thing happened to me. Truly sucks. -
-
Just wondering but is it really easy to blow the fuse when upgrading the screen? -
Dude if this really work I owe so much ! -
Thank you !
-
You got it works?
-
Yup !
Thanks a lot dude !
The only thing is that it's some kind of temporary repair. For the moment I've bridged the fuse with some solder core after cleaning it with flux.
I think I should replace the fuse but my soldering skills aren't sufficent...
Anyway, again a big THANK YOU @ All and especially ngvuanh ! -
^Glad you got it working!
-
A lot of new VAIO laptops with LED LCD, if you don't remove all external power when you attempt to replace LCD, the fuse may be blown.
-
Was the battery removed when you attempted the repair?
-
^I think often what happens is the LEDBLU gets damaged when the original screen cracks and blows the fuse PRIOR to the screen replacement.
-
Hi, the fuse wasn't damaged when the screen cracked. I'm not sure but I may have omitted to remove the battery while swapping screens, which seems to have fried the fuse.
Btw It's still running like a charm ! -
If cracked screen still lights up before you replace a new LCD, it means fuse is still good.

Hey guys,
I am having the same issue with no back lighting on my new replacement screen on my Sony Vaio CW series and Ive been trying to figure this out for about 6 monthsHere is a couple pictures of where the video cable connects to the board (picture view is with the bottom cover taken off laptop). Hopefully someone can help me please
Thanks,

You have to take motherboard completely out, and then take picture of both side at LVDS connector area.
-
Im not too sure what LVDS connector you are talking about so I took a few pictures and hopefully at least on of these helps us. Here if a few pictures of both sides of the MB. Please let me know what you can figured out since I'm kind of lost
-
The detached circuit board is where the battery and video cable from screen connects to

So I have one question. You actually did manage to upgrade your screen from 1600 to 1920? Is the new screen OEM from sony?
-
No its a LG screen that is the same model as my original screen
-
Hi, I don't have the service manual on my hand but from what I see here my thought :
-
Should I test it by bridging it? I dont have a multimeter but I can go buy one if needed.
-
^You should buy a multimeter. They are cheap.
-
^And remember do NOYT check continuity with your multimeter when any power is present on the board (machine needs to be off). Otherwise you'll blow a fuse in your meter or fry it.
-
Just bought one at Harbor Freight
Ill update you guys after using the multimeter. Thanks everyone for your help

Front and back of motherboard where LVDS connector is located per ngvuanh. I also tried the multi meter on the fuses around the area where Soadam suggested are all good

Can anyone confirm if this is the fuse that is the trouble maker on my Vaio? Multimeter says its a dud and its located right on the backside of where the LVDS connector is but I need some reassurance
-
Sounds good, yet you should wait for confirmation from ngvuanh ^^
-
Soldered a bridge on F17 and its works now. Finally after 6 months!!!!!
-
Glad you got it working !
-
anyone fancy posting a pic of soldered bridges up for future reference to give amature solderers something to aim for in a repair
-
Hi I would like ask which fuse is for VGN-Z due to backlight s well gone

and working still OK
thx -
guys please if you are electronics expert please advice.
both looks like in VPCZ in previous side
fuse connected to coil and brown ... (propably resistor)

Than VGN-Z fixed thank so much all

I fear I've blown a fuse on my Pcg 71313m. Had damaged screen and replaced (forgot to remove battery). Is it likely to be fuse that is causing my very very faint/black screen too?
-
Hi
I'm pretty sure this vgn-sz4vwn/x motherboard has a blown fuse, but no F17 Markings...
I think I have located the fuse, but I could really use some confirmation..
Could anyone confirm that it's the component below (brown, marked "S"?)
I am getting no connection across it with my multimeter so would be great to get the green light from someone....

Hi
if you have no backlight at LED LCD SZ4 you need this board to exchange
