My Sony VAIO VPC-CW17FX fuse, F17, type 'N' was blown. I tried to solder a bridge, which tested w/ an Ohm meter, but after reassembly, I now get no image at all on the LED LCD. External monitor still works. Where do I buy a replacement fuse? I have no idea what the specs on it are. Also, any tips on how to best/safely replace it? Thanks!

    first of all welcome everyone.
Im not nativ english speaker, so forgive me my language. My problem is very much the same like others. Ive got vaio Z (first gen) and ive lost backlight after bad dissasembly. I did exactly the same thing as urgiv did with his vaio Z. His notebook work after this fix, my is still dead. Please suggest me what could be wrong besides fuse, besides, for me this not look like fuse. urgiv solder this black little fuse to brown resistor, question is why. Maybe lcd scrreen is broken, because this fix didnt work for me.
I am desperete to fix my vaio, its great notebook and i miss it so much. I dont wanna spend 200 usd for new motherboard and wait for this 1 month. Please help me.

    best regards

I can't see it at an angle.
You should take a straight picture of the board on both side.

Green component marked N1, designated F1.
See attached picture, I marked with a red circle.

Between F1 and F4, I prefer F4 because its rating is 1A, which is similar to fuse rating on other models.
F1 is rating 0.25A, so it may be not the right one.

I have a VGN-Z with the same problem by upgrading the screen (1366x787), to (1600x900), the backlit stopped working.
Switch over to the old screen and it didn't work either.
I had a quick look over the motherboard, and looked at the part that Urgiv pointed out.

What fuse/resistor is dedicated to the backlit?
I have a spare VGN-Z motherboard were I can pull the fuses of, don't like to bridge it.

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me here. My Sony Vaio VPCEE3E0E / PCG-61611M has exactly the same issue as discribed in this thread - no voltage to DC side of inverter. I believe the fuse is marked 'N' but would someone be able to confirm? The N is directly underneath the pin that is not supplying the power.

I can see the fuse marked F5, but I can't confirm it because I am not sure what it is for.
You should take photos which I can estimate fuse location.
If you have voltmeter, you can also check that fuse.

Hi, many thanks for that. Re additional photos, do you want me to take more pictures of the same area? I have a multimeter, and will check the voltages. Thanks for your help. :)
