hey guys,
i'm experiencing some troubles when watching videos via HDMI on my philips tv...
when starting a video everything seems fine, just plugging in the HDMI cable and start watching any vid on my vaio
... but then: after a few minutes my philips suddenly gets black screen, then green screen, and after that the typically "your-crappy-SCART-cable-is-broken"-cyan-color-screen ...
i have absolutely no idea whats happening at this time.
after that i have to replug the cable.
i figured out that i can also just change the resolution of the tv - which kind of "restarts" the screen - to get the "real" colors back.
this keeps happening in unregulary intervals - but about 10-15 times per movie - and that sucks!
one of the reasons to buy this notebook was that's its able to interact with my tv; HDMI-wise
and now this...
i was hoping that this has something to do with outdated drivers, but also after installing the newest available drivers for the radeon 5650 nothing changes.
does anyone have the same problem or knows something about it?

I know this sounds kind of basic but have you tried a different HDMI cable?
-
unfortunately i don't have another cable ...
but i doubt that's something to do with it, i guess if the cable was broken then i would have this issue from the beginnin and not just from time to time ... -
Change the ouptur format in Nvidia control panel. There should be a setting for rgb or ycrcb in there somewhere. I think it's under "hdmi color" or something like that.
-
@beaups:
i have an ati radeon hd 5650
but i know what you mean, i tried to vary with the color settings but as soon as i connect an external monitor to my vaio these settings are disabled, no way to change anything ... -
Ah ati has the setting too. If you leave your monitor disconnected does changing the hdmi color format solve the problem?
-
i do not have the problem when the monitor isn't connected ;-)
-
-
i now tried a different cable on a different HDMI on my tv ... still the same so it's something with the vaio ...
i also checked the tv for the color settings (color space etc) ...couldn't find anything -

In your original post, you said you've installed the latest available drivers for the 5650... from Sony or ATI/AMD?
-
first i used the vaio updater and it said that i have the newest version.
then i checked online for drivers and found a way newer version, installed it, but still the same problem -

Catalyst 10.9 from AMD?
I really don't think this is a hardware issue. It's somewhere in your settings or drivers. -
if i have a older version i'll try the one from your link, thanks! -
i just installed catalyst 10.9 and during the installation it told me that the graphic driver i had installed was the newest...
-
update:
i now even tried another TV - same problem
it's definitively the notebook ...
i just sent a mail to sony support ... maybe they know more ... -

They'll recommend you restore it. Try this procedure before they tell you to restore it..
1. Uninstall all ATI/AMD graphics drivers, including Catalyst.
2. Download Driver Sweeper from Guru3D, and run it.
3. Driver sweeper will delete all registry keys that pertain to ATI/AMD graphics drivers and catalyst settings.
4. Reboot. You'll notice everything is HUGE, but don't worry, it's supposed to be for the moment.
5. Install the Catalyst 10.9 driver suite.
6. After installation, reboot.
7. After rebooting you should be back to normal, and now you have a clean driver install. If you've done this and you still have your issue, then Sony might have to RMA it for hardware issues. -
i have completely reinstalled windows 7 twice now. at the second try i ONLY installed catalyst 10.9 (from your link) and it's still not working.
i will do as you said anyway, just to be sure that i tried everything...
thanks for your help, i'll post an update as soon as i'm home. -
alright ... seems like i can't install the HDMI driver from catalyst 10.9
the install log says:
HDMI/DP-Audiodriver
Final State: Not Successful
Version: 7.11.0.7708
Size: 1 Mbytes
(i just translated the output from german to english so don't be surprised if it doesn't match the original text...)
seems like i need special drivers for the HDMI port ...
but like i said, by using the pre-installed drivers (available here) i also get the same result ...
still waiting for sony support to answer ... -
I use the laptop for watching movies with xbmc. Same issues here green-screen. You solve it temporarely in two ways: flip the display back to the laptop and back to the tv again, everything normally (for 15 - 60 mins) or leave it playing, after a while the good colors come back. But both are not a solution when you are watching tv.
I tried it also with vlc and mediacenter7, both do the green-screen.
What have we in common?? TV and graphic card...
Did you got any further??
Regards....

Just watched 2 movies, what I noticed was that wit the first movie (normal dvd, 4,7 GB) I had the green screen 3x. With the second movie I had the problem approx. 6 times (MKV, 8GB).
Could it be that the graphicscard runs out of memory??? This should be strange because the HD 5650 has 1 GB memory.
Just some more input to solve the problem.

Maybe a solution:
Found it in a Dutch Forum, got to check it myself later today:
HDMI Probleem HD5770 - Philips 32" - Videokaarten & Beeldschermen - GoT
-Go to ati ccc (catalyst control center)
-drop down 'Graphics' -> 'Dekstops & Displays' -> 'Pixel Format'
-Set the pixel format to: 'RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)'
-click apply, Display should be disturbed (green)
- restart TV, problem solved..(stays away)
When in CC with Desktops and Displays lowest screen, click on the black triangle (upper right screen)
After the click you can select Configure, there you can find this option
Good luck -
SOLVED!!!!!!
Just a post to say that the post above solved the problem for me!!!
Make sure you attach the TV with HDMI, the RGB setting must be applied on the tvscreen
Grtz... -
