    Hi,

It looks like I have a hardware problem with sound board, because sound went off and never came back even though I tried to reinstall drivers.

It happened while I was looking carefully at the sound board, the laptop was powered on to test the sound.
I needed to to do that because there was already a sound issue with the jack port... It was a bit damage and I wanted to try to make a little fix.
But when I moved it (though quite gently), sound turned off even on speaker. Yet nothing had been unplugged or twisted etc..

I have disassembled it and assembled it several time but no success. It looks like it's damaged but I don't know where.
It's weird because the usb port, as well as wireless switch are still working properly.

May be there is something wrong that you can see ?
    (Sorry for poor quality shot...)

I've found only one replacement for it, on ebay, which part number is 1-881-479-11, I bought it, hopefully it will solve the problem.

You can get a replacement for that daughterboard from Sony for around $95 and it's a cinch to replace. I had the opposite problem as you - the sound was fine, but the USB port died on me. I would not recommend in the future that you have the machine powered while you are handling circuit boards - no doubt something shorted out.

Namaiki was kind enough to provide this link with the info when I needed to replace mine:
    <hr style='color:#EEEEEE' size='1'>got to https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/sony-parts.aspx
Type VPC in the model prefix
then A1769462A in the part number, worked for me.

did this work for you? My sound crapped out too. I want to make sure that the audio chip is on the board as opposed to just the i/o.

here is what i did to diagnose: LINK
