Hello does anyone knows how could i replace my 320gb hdd with ssd?I am thinking of making a quad with 4x64 what do i need to be able to do this?
PS: My model doesn't have a DVD/Blue-ray drive![]()

Buy a standard 2,5" SSD and replace your HDD. Quad SSD is much more expensive because you need to buy the proprietary Sony parts.
-
so i could change only with the original samsung ssd?i can't put 4x kingstone ssd?
-
Nonono you can put any brand of SSD in it, provided it is the standard 2.5" size and 9mm height.
-
but does the connector fits(because from what i know is a sata 2 but not sure)?
-
Why don't you just post a link to your desired SSD and we tell you if it will fit or not?
-
Good idea so i was thinking to make a quad with 4 of this type of kingstone
-
This does not work. You can buy two, you need to take the case of them off (with luck it may fit inside your laptop) and you need an additional ribbon cable which you don't have.
Buy one of those:
Kingston Technology Company - Solid State Drives - SSDNow V+100
And replace your HDD with that. You don't need extra cables or stuff, just plug and play. This is the cheapest and best solution. Also forget about GPU/CPU upgrades in your other thread, you can't do it on your own (GPU is not even possible) and it will cost you more than a new laptop. This small laptop does not have any sockets or slots to put another GPU or CPU in the simple way.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

Check out this thread by Enny02 who replaced his Sony SSD's with non-Sony ones: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/511578-how-replace-ssd-vaio-vpcz11-vpcz12-non-sony-ssd.html
Ignore the parts about uhh removing the SSDs and instead you need to purchase the ribbon cables. I guess you could get quad SSDs by fitting 2 SSDs where the Sony SSD's went, then possibly fitting another two where your HDD currently sits, but i'm not sure about cable management or how many SATAII ports there are, etc, etc. If you get it to work, it'd be nice to see (so document w/ pics).
But the easiest way, is to just replace your HDD with a large SSD. I mean... with a nice Sanforce drive, you'll get comparable performance (there really is not a huge difference in everyday life between 500MBps and 300 MBps) and your 4k random read/writes might be better (especially with an intel G2 drive)
note: you have to use 1.8" drives if you plan on fitting the SSDs where Sony put theirs -
hi, I am interested in putting 2 X18 into my Z1390, possible?
thanks! -
Yes I know i have to use 1.8" ssd but anyway i have no ideea if i could replace the normal 5400rpm hdd with 4x64ssd and i have no idea if someone has already tried to do this,if I can't replace with 4 ssd i'm thinking to buy just one 2.5" ocz vertex 3 and replace the existing hdd.First I was thinking to buy a 2.5" 15000rpm hdd here in France I had seen some of but after i thought it will consume more power and it will quickly warm up...by the way I need a good ssd to fit there in the space with some good performance and which does not eat a lot of power so if someone has any idea please post here
-
4x64 ssd is only possible with original EXPENSIVE sony parts, you were already told. 2.5" vertex 3 is very good and will work with not much hassle - buy that, this is the best solution for you.
2.5" 15000 rpm drives are SAS (not SATA!), for servers and won't fit in your Z because they are higher than 9.5mm. -
Yes you are right the 15000rpm are SAS this i din't see
and how the 4X64 ssd's from sony are almost at the same price as a vertex 3 240 i think i will go with the vertex 3
...thanx for the answers folks!

Mhmm consider too that SSDs in a RAID0 array don't have TRIM support (but any additional SSDs, not part of the array supports TRIM commands <-- which is stupid if you put your BIOS in RAID mode, but don't put any drives in RAID) -
Did anyone tried to put 1333mhz DDR3 inside his Z?Does work correctly?Any big changes?
I wanna change from 4gb 1066mhz DDR3 to 8gb 1333mhz
-
^It will slow itself down to 1066.
-
But why the motherboard can go up to 1333mhz?!
-
It can't. The memory controller sits on the CPU and limits memory speed to 1066MHz max.

Hi guys,
I've got a Z13 with a HDD (and w/o ODD) which I just replaced with a Samsung 470 SSD.
First thing I noticed is that the SSD is not recognised in the BIOS - however, Windows installation worked fine.
So everything seemed fine until I did a performance benchmark: I did not get any more than 120mb/s in read as in write. The 470 should make up to 250 mb/s.
I also tried an firmware update but that did not work as the update utility (based on DOS) did not find the SSD either.
any ideads what could be the problem?
thanks,
silent
