after almost 14 months of ownership, I need to upgrade my 256(128gbx2) ssd to a 512GB ssd, however I don't know where to start.
Where can I find a 1.8" 512GB drive? 128gbx4 or 256gbx2 ?
I want to keep my optical drive

I know I am not the only one who as done this. Can't find anything on search though...

Your location?
You can strip 2 1.8" ssds and hook the ssd boards with a piece of kapton foil up to your original SSD connector.
There are many 1.8" ssds with 256GB:
Crucial 256GB 1.8 : CTFDDAA256MAG
Super Talent Master Drive KX3 256 GB
Micron C400 : MTFDDAA256MAM-1K1
many more available.
Even 1TB is possible with 2x512GB Micron C400 1.8" drives. That'd be the absolute blast for the Z. Datasheet here.
BTW: Google gave me all that info in 3 searches.

Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA1NW300G301 1.8" 300GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Internal SSD
300gb 1.8" Intel 320
you can have 600gb this way and keep your optical drive. -
Pyro, thanks. in Texas.
I've changed out the hard drive on a macbook pro before using a guide. Is there a guide to change out the SSD for my z1390?
Qwaarjet: The Z1390 has literally two 1.8" SSDs in raid0? I just have to buy two larger capacity SSDs and plug and play? I thought for some reason even though it was 128x2 in raid0, that it was a proprietary hard drive. So there are actually two bays the 128x2 SSDs occupy?
A guide would help.
P.S. does the type of SSD matter? SATA3 vs SATA6 ? Do I need to buy anything else such as connectors or will the existing one in z1390 work?
thanks -
Here's the guide

The OEM drives are proprietary and buying larger versions of the OEM drives direct from Sony is absurdly expensive but 1.8" drives work IF you remove them from their casing. You void the warranty doing so, keep that in mind. The Intel 320 drives however don't seem to have any anti-tampering stickers and are opened by 4 simple screws vs my Crucial C300's which had tabs I had to bend and is now easily seen as tampered with.
You're lucky seeing as you have a Z13. You already have the required cable. Once you open your laptop, you will see a cable with two micro-sata connections (the connection most if not all 1.8" drives use).
If you had the original Z11, you would have needed a new cable. -
^ Good explanation. Nothing to add here.

Qwaarjet: Thank you! you answered everything!

Hi
I am having VPCZ1390X with 128GB SSD (two 64 GB SSD in raid).
Can anyone tell if they succefully found and got it working with any new SSD with higher capcity(>= 512GB) please ?
I am not able to understand other than 1.8" size requirement, what other things I should look at in a newer SSD for it to be compatible with my laptop ? Can someone please please suggest what worked for them ? -
Please tellme the exact model number of a SSD that worked for you please?
