Having placed an order as soon as it was possible, that is to say the very beginning of july, I am patiently waiting for it to be shipped.
A few days ago, my shipping date was postponed by a week (July 20th / 25th), then another (August 1st / 6th). I wasnt surprised since other members already got the same messages, and Sony had officialy announced that delay in Japan :

But I wanted more precise information, so I called Sony.
At first they explained that they were waiting for some components to finish the production, and the second time they added that a compatibility problem with parts was noticed through quality control.
The problem is that the people I talked to were rather vague about details, trying to stick to Sonys official statement. Moreover they were clearly annoyed by complains (not mine) about this delay, openly telling me to cancel my order if I wasnt happy with this, although I was just asking for more information.
Anyway its good that Sony decided to stop the production of the Z until they clear that mysterious issue.
What I find worrying is that such delay occured so close to the shipping date, as if they noticed it at the very last minute.
I can understand how difficult it is to make official statements about such delicate topics, because you dont want your (potential) customers to think that your product might not be as perfect as advertised.
However I really regret that Sony doesnt tell exactly what the problem is, and at least try to find a little compensation for their faithful customers that are waiting (im)patiently...
What do you think about it ?![]()

It's normal for Sony before a Vaio launches.
-
Sony doesn't provide any compensation for New Z's?
They gave me a free Bluetooth mouse and a cleaning cloth for delivering my dad's SB ONE day late. -
Good things are worth the wait.
My other saying is, take anything a phone rep says with a grain of salt. Don't read too much into the "difficulty with components line" or anything. If you're unhappy, ask for a discount or some free stuff, or cancel the order. -
In Europe, the shipping is still listed for the end of july...
-
The EU is getting priority?
By the way, I'm told I'll get an email once they start building my order. I've not gotten this yet; how long does it take to build a Vaio Z? A few days, or is it done in a day? -
I think the size of the "New Sony Vaio Z speculation/news" thread says it all. -
By the way mine is being assembled for two weeks, and the only mails I got were about the shipping date delay... -
In France, some customers got an offer from Sony, either getting a 125 Euros credit or cancel the order.

In my opinion, now it's clear that Sony has to give us more precise information (both about the shipping date and the cause of the problem) AND some kind of compensation.
There I should have titled this topic : "VPC-Z21 shipping delay, explanation and compensation needed". -

Perhaps Europe will be launching together with all other regions around 10-13th of August
VPC-Z21 shipping delay, how do you feel about it ?
