I'm looking for a new laptop in the F series and I'm stuck between these two models. I went to the Sony store in my city and checked out the VPCF1390X. The VPCF2290X 2D wasn't available for display so I checked out the VPCF2190X 3D since it's similar to the 2D model.

I plan to use this as a desktop replacement and to watch movies, photo editing, listen to music, and play emulators.

Just wondering if the VPCF2290X 2D is really that much better to justify paying an extra $300?

You need to compare specs, and what you listed there are the model numbers for the customize to order laptops which means you really can't compare the two, if you can get the exactly preconfigured model numbers then we can help ya. As far as i know, the second number means a slight "revision" and the 1st number means a large revision. For the Z series at least, the Z11, Z12, Z13 were practically all the same except a few options for the configure to order changed and a few internal parts were sourced from other places

By buying F22 you'll get a newer GPU and quite better CPU. I would go for F22, definitely. The price difference is almost nothing.
