    Hi guys,

since I have installed a fresh Win 7 Pro on my Z, the Vaio Power Management does not work properly anymore. In the out-of-the-box installation it worked fine. The power management tab is there and I can select wether to shut off the DVD/BD drive or not. I have seen earlier, that there is also a firewire option but not anymore. The problem is, I can change whatever I want there, the settings made are not applied. In the original system I saw that when I disconnected from AC power, there was a kind of "your DVD drive was deactivated" notification in the tray bar.

How can I make my power management work again and update to the newest versions of Sony packages?

Beside all the system drivers, this is what I have currently installed:

    Sony shared library 5.6.0.12040
Sony Firmware Extension Parser Driver 8.0.10Q1
    Setting Utility Series 5.2.0.14250
    VAIO control center 4.2.0.15020
    VAIO event service 5.2.1.05130
    VAIO power management 5.1.1.06180

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Is too bad that nobody knows how to solve it because i am also curios how to make it work, I think you must change some registry but which one?

I've been having some issues with the VAIO Power Management recently too.

Can you (pyr0) tell me whether you use the setting where the machine wakes-up when you flip OPEN the LCD from hibernate / sleep?

My VGN-Z suddenly stopped working in that regard (ie, won't wake up when the lid is flipped opened, though it will wake up without issue if I press a key or the power button). I first noticed this problem 2 - 3 days ago, and haven't done anything sgnificant.

I have checked VAIO CONTROL CENTRE and under POWER MANAGEMENT selected the appropriate setting... It saves and closes properly but just doesn't seem to execute as per those settings like it has for the past 2+ years I had this machine... I did once close the lid quite harshly a few days back and that may be the cause of the issue. But...

Now, I can confirm that this is not a hardware issue (well, I'm pretty sure of it). The actual lid motion is detected by my Z in that it knows when the LCD is closed and opened; the LCD turns off and on respectively. So meaing the screen doesn't stay on when the lid is closed, which is how it's supposed to work. So it is not a loose magnet or anything. Hence why I'm rather stumped...

I don't have a battery attached at the moment but will try some of the other power management settings out in the next few. Hopefully this IS solvable.

Cheers in advance if anyone is able to help.

EDIT - Sorry, didn't realise the opening post was so old... Might as well try a new thread if no reply here...

I really hate how messy and ugly the Sony drivers/utilities are... Getting a stupid notification about power to DVD-drive each time you unplug your computer. Why is there a tray icon taking up valuable space for something so useless anyway?

    It is so non-streamlined. >.<
