Lately I've been noticing my Sony Vaio Z11's fan is getting a bit loud, even when running off the battery in Power Saver mode.

The CPUID Hardware Monitor tool reveals the following temperatures:

    Case: 58C
    CPU Core 1: 59C
    CPU Core 2: 57C
    HDD: 34C
    RAM Slot 1: 43C
    RAM Slot 2: 45C

I guess these are pretty high temperatures, but why would they be so high? The laptop has never been disassembled so there's no reason to believe there's an inappropriate amount of thermal paste, and I can't see any dust clogging up the fan.

When I open the VAIO Control Panel utility and change the current fan/power mode to Balance, Performance, or Silent the fan spins down in all cases, but then spins back up about 3 seconds later. There is zero change in the reported temperatures in the Hardware Monitor.

FWIW I did upgrade my GPU drivers to the latest official release from Sony, but I don't recall that impacting on the fan noise. The fan is just as loud when I'm using only the Intel GMA and when I'm using the GeForce.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Those don't seem to be high temperatures, at all. High's something close to 90. Is it as high as the times when something CPU/GPU intensive is running?

No, this is at idle. And it's the same in both Power Saving and High Performance Windows power modes.

    No, idling with everything closed.
