I have VPCZ116GH/B bought in Thailand. 1600x900 Pixels.

I'd like to buy a 1920x1080 monitor and expand my work area onto the external monitor (not clone display).

    However,

When I do Windows key & P, choose extend, then edit the properties, I only see 1600x1200 as max via external VGA running on Speed Mode.

    I really was expecting to see 1920 x 1080!

Am I correct in this understanding:

    (a) Speed mode:

GeForce outputs HD resolution via HDMI.
GeForce will not do HD resolution via VGA.
& Need hack to enable Nvidia Rotation

    (b) Stamina mode:

Intel outputs HD resolution via VGA.
Intel cannot output signal via HDMI.
& No hack available to enable Intel Rotation.

Result = 1920 x 1080 + portrait rotation is only available in Speed mode?

Note I've never setup Dual monitors or used HDMI - Please excuse my lack of understanding!

    O/S is Win 7 Pro x64.

Sony Vaio VPCZ116GH/B (Sony Asia Pacific)
    Intel Core i5-540M / 6GB / GeForce GT 330M / SSD / WXGA++ / Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

try to use HDMI then use "External Monitor" only mode. because the VGA will only give you the native resolution of your notebook.

and for VPCZ, HDMI is only available on SPEED mode and unable in STAMINA mode.

VGA cannot output HD, only HDMI cable. as far as I know..
