Anyone else here getting notified of an update for their Ricoh SD card reader in Vaio Update, but having it fail to install every time. I'm caught in this loop, with update bugging me. I tried downloading and manually installing, and I get this logfile with a single error at the end. Any ideas? Thanks.

BTW, the update is called Ricoh(R) SD CPRM Memory Card Reader/Writer Driver Update and the downloadable file is here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?upd_id=6099&template_id=1&SMB=YES, called RIDFMC-00229135-1042.EXE and released on 8/26/2010

I downloaded the driver and it installs fine (I don't use Vaio Update). The logfile you showed seems to refer to Vaio Update's registry values, did you try uninstalling Vaio Update, installing the card reader driver, then reinstalling Vaio Update?

That log looks like it's passing and the old value was fail? Are you getting another error or are you assuming it's failed due to the log?

Update keeps showing the update and saying the installation failed. Maybe I'll try uninstalling Vaio update, installing the driver, then reinstalling the update, as TofuTurkey suggests.

Yeah, I don't know if the installation's actually failed. I wonder if that old value is from running Vaio Update first, and then trying manually. I might have to entirely uninstall and reinstall the card reader, as well as Vaio Update, and then reinstall first the reader and then Update, because doing what TofuTurkey suggested didn't work. VU still keeps telling me to install it and saying it failed.

Hmm, maybe running Vaio Care will help? It has a registry cleaner, perhaps it will clean out the errors. It's a wild shot, although every time it runs, it seems to find tons of problems with my registry to fix .

I went through uninstalling both Vaio update and my SD controller, wholesale, then reinstalling the controller, driver, and update for the SD, and then Vaio Update, and get the same results. But then I looked more closely at the download page for this SD update, and see it's not marked as required for Win 7 Ultimate (what I'm running). Since I guess that's not a supported OS for this laptop (which begs the question, why is it listed in the update matrix on Sony's download site), I guess VU can't tell what I do and don't need. This is just a theory, because I really don't understand what's happening when I read the log file. There's just that one failure message at the end of the file. I'll give TofuTurkey's recommendation a try, just to see what happens.

I get the same problem after a clean install. The program when run manually appears to install fine, but it's a little annoying that VAIO update continues to show it.

    I'm on Windows 7 x64 Pro.
