Had a little surprise last night while working on my laptop. Half of the screen went white with vertical lines. Did not drop it or anything brutal. Everything is working fine on a external monitor via HDMI. Do you think I need a new lcd, a new inverter or it could possibly be only a loose connection?

I'd also say that, you can see that in the lower left corner, try applying pressure on that black distorted area and you can see it expand. Hope you got an ADH warranty or something.

Unfortunately, that looks like a cracked screen to me as well. :(

    Good luck.

it aches my heart to see a vaio z screen looking like that D:

i suspect the cost to replace it will be pretty high.

    Thanks for all your advices.

Warranty is over now, it ended 2 months ago. :(

I bought it with my credit card that is suppose to double the original warranty. I'll call tomorrow to see if this can be covered. I'll let you know.

The cheapest that I found for the lcd only is 455$ + shipping.

A Sony service center quoted me 900$ for parts and labor.

900 is outrageous. You can get a 1080p replacement LCD for 400 direct from the supplier, and possibly 320usd if weblcd.com is legit. Replacement guides are on the forum with detailed photos, so it wouldn't be hard to do yourself.
