I am happy it did work out with you. Following your experience I will edit my post above.
Integrated graphics usually refers to the Intel graphics.
If you mean the NVIDIA one it is easy.
The NVIDIA card in the Z1 is the only one with HDMI output. You can try that. Instead you can try any 3D app (like a game).
Also when the NVIDIA card is running you should hear the fan trying to dissipate the heat. Intel graphics usually keep the fan at low speeds...
Hope that helps.

If you are successful you can uninstall all NVIDIA drivers from "Programs and Features" (right click on Start button). Then proceed to Device manager (also found in Start's button right click menu) and uninstall every Graphics adapter you see and delete any driver files.
If you have a driver cleanup app this is a good time to use it!
Then you have the option to start again.
If everything fails you have the worst option to start over...
Andrew08's driver sometimes does not register a restart made to configure its settings. This leads to telling you that you must restart even if you did. Sollution for that is to fire up "regedit" and delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA_RebootNeeded*******
Also remember to do any reboots by Settings->Update->Recovery->Restart Now->Troubleshoot->Advanced->Options->Startup Settings, so you can start in safe mode again.
Wish you good luck.Last edited: Oct 29, 2015 -
Thanks for the tips. Deleted the drivers, reinstalled, and now it works fine. Tried 3D mark to make sure the GPU was actually working. Also the brightness controls no longer work, so that's another sign. It's important for people to realize that the Andrew08 drivers can be loaded in Windows 10 without resorting to the bios hack. I am really pleased how well Windows 10 works on my machine.
Does the auto setting on the switch still work like it used to? How about switching between stamina and speed settings on the fly?
I really appreciate the help!Last edited: Oct 29, 2015 -

Seems to be a software issue, maybe something in Andrew08 's driver. A small price to pay -
Did you upgrade to Windows 10 or did you do a clean install? The upgrade doesn't retain all the drivers from the previous version, so you need to reinstall some of the Sony stuff before brightness control will work. This is easier said than done, because the Sony stuff has to be installed in a specific order.
A clean install is always a better idea than an in-place upgrade.galaxyge likes this. -
Everything working fine now on my VAIO VGN-Z, EXCEPT..
The REAL problem here is, that the Disk Volume RAID 0 of my two 128 GB SSDs somehow got messed up during the Windows 10 Upgrade, or is not supported by Windows 10 / Intel drivers. I measure random write speeds of only a about a ridiculous 1 GB/sec .
I've implemented a workaround discussed on Intel Community to get software updated from Intel Matrix Storage Manager to their newer Rapid Storage Technology.
https://communities.intel.com/mobil...-content?content=/api/core/v3/contents/399806
But still, SSDs are flawed.
Ideas:
SSDs firmware upgrade?
Delete raid /erase disks / recreate?
Throw out old SSDs and replace with new bigger one?
Do the BIOS hack and use IDE or AHCI mode instead?
...
Any experiences, recommendations?

Even with the BIOS HACK I am still having to use the RAID setting, even though I have a single 2.5" SSD (mine was an HDD model), so unless you want to do that to get the latest graphics drivers, that isn't going to help much.

I thought while doing a clean install of Windows, the mode could be changed with the hacked BIOS. So this is bad news to me, considered doing the hack now mainly to get rid of RAID, with new graphics as an additional benefit.

Thanks for this! Seems to be working fine for me.

Looking for the andrew08 drivers for Nvidia Hybrid Graphics (GeForce 330M) for VPCZ1; Can anybody help?
-
I found them deep within Nautilus' "my discoveries with Z series hybrid graphics" thread, I'm sure. I'll try and find you a link, the main links is down but there's other links somewhere within those 400 pages.
Edit: I'm sure the one that worked for me was the one here (click the .txt file on Andrew08s signature, the link is in there)

Thanks a lot!!! Got the file and hope it will work (INF file seems correct, installing procedure is clear)
-
I think the only thing not working is the brightness function keys. Bios update supposedly fixes, without the need for bios hack. Not brave enough here to flash, not a big enough issue for me.
-
Finished installation; for some reason wushowhide didn't work; so I used gpedit.msc to block the update of the drivers for the two graphic cards. Switching between stamina & speed works only in automatic modus (depending on connection to power plug). Changes take only place (i.e. plugging- unplugging) when I restart twice (unplugged the nvidia graphic card does not even appear). No problem at the end, once you know that.
The control center does not function properly under windows 10. There are some other adjustments (i.e. for the backlight of keyboard) which have disappeared. Obviously the control center installation adapts somehow to the windows 10 (showing or not showing options) may be I have the wrong version...
Again many thanks, main issue was to make hdmi working (accomplished... although hardware switching via function keys doesn't work... you have to use the nvidia tool) -
At least I finished updating... Took some time but most things are working. Brightness keys are working only in stamina modus, thats fine. Hardware switching between auto and stamina is not always functioning immidiately, but with reboot it's okay. WWAN works after installing connection manager. So thank all for support, happy, that I did not have to do some flashing...
-
I get the reluctance to flashing the BIOS. I agonised for 3 years before taking the plunge. Now I'm glad I did. Read the parent thread which shows you how to mod the BIOS, and do that. If you are able to do that successfully, you'll have more confidence for the BIOS flashing, as you will be flashing the modded version of your own BIOS.

Same here, it took me about 3 years from when I first heard about it until I had the courage to do the BIOS mod.
You can read the thread and people here will be happy to support, if you wanna do it.
I'm very glad I did, it feels like having a totally new machine, where you can e.g. just go and install shiny new nvidia drivers etc.
Anyway, congrats for the successful windows 10 install!Last edited: Jan 25, 2016 -
Hi everyone, I managed to install the Andrew 08 drivers in Windows 10. Occasionally when I boot or reboot, the screen goes blank. It's like the video drivers haven't loaded properly, so I have to force shut down and start up again.
No bios hack and "speed" switch on
Thanks for any helpLast edited: Feb 24, 2016 -
Hi mokeiko,
When I am having any trouble with ANY graphic driver I use DDU (display driver uninstaller). It will reboot your PC in safe mode (so you can uninstall any drivers) and it will disable the automatic driver downloads from Win10. It will then remove any remains from drivers (use NVIDIA and INTEL to be sure) so your system is clean. Then proceed to install Andrew08 driver (remember to enable unsigned drivers).
Hope this helps. -
-
I will try these remedies when I get home. Thank you for all your help, greatly appreciated
UPDATE:
papaFX and anytimer, thank you for your advice. I used DDU as well as turned off fast boot and my Vaioz seems to be (cold) booting wihtout the black screen, yay. Again, thank you for your help.Last edited: Feb 29, 2016galaxyge likes this. -
I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to windows 10. Thanks again, papaFX, for your instructions.
I took the lazy approach of using the upgrade icon in the task bar! Then it was just a matter of getting the video drivers to work... Like DRSHF, I found that wushowhide did not work - the driver update was not in the list. I had to use gpedit to disable the driver installation after I'd installed the Andrew08 drivers. Then, on reboot, it tried to install the drivers, but failed (because of the group policy setting), and at that point I could use wushowhide to hide the intel driver update.
Switching between stamina and speed (with the PC on) is working fine. The only thing I noticed is that automatic screen brightness (based on ambient light) no longer seems to work, but everything else (so far) is working nicely! -
Hello guys,
I've made a clean install of Win10 on Vaio VPCZ1. Motion eye web cam is not working.
Does anyone knows how to fix this?
Thanks in advance -
Did you follow PapaFX's instructions? You may have missed one of the drivers. What does it show in Device manager (for "imaging devices")?
-
The thing is it doesn't show anything bad in Device Manager.
It actually shows nothing: no unknown devices with yellow triangles.
When i try forcibly to find a web-camera, it finds nothing.
So i'm curious, which driver from PapaFX's list is responsible for the web-cam?
Maybe I should just re-isntall it.
Thanks in advance! -
The Windows10 upgrade has only just decided my VPZ1 is compatible. I upgraded via the task bar link and yep, the hybrid graphics don't work, nor my external graphics box (vidock) and monitor connected through the expresscard slot.
I had a look for the Andrew08 drivers but I ran out of time and had to revert to Win7.
[later that day] And now I see Win10 upgrade tells me my pc is not compatible :-(Last edited: May 19, 2016 -
Everyone, PLEASE keep in mind that this thread was started to discuss the IN PLACE UPGRADE to Windows 10. It is assumed that you are ALREADY running an earlier version of Windows with ALL DRIVERS ALREADY INSTALLED.
People who have questions about installing Windows 10 from scratch (clean install) should check out the other threads which deal with that topic.
Here is one that I started. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/vpcz1-bios-hack-windows-10-clean-install.779677/timwjohn likes this. -

Thanks Asher's, if you have the time I would really appreciate a list of steps for the hybrid graphics fix
Last edited: May 21, 2016 -
- Disable auto driver updates (System-> Advanced system settings-> Hardware-> Device Installations Settings)
- Use the Device Manager to unistall Intel graphics driver (under Display Adapters) and tick the delete driver files
- Restart without Driver Verification (Settings->Update->Recovery->Restart Now->Troubleshoot->Advanced->Options->Startup Settings.…)
- Install Andrew08 driver
- Run gpedit. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions > "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs"
- Enter the device ID of the Intel Graphics Device. The device ID can be found trough Device Manager > Display Adapter > Intel HD Graphics > Properties > Details > Hardware IDs. I also added the Hardware ID of the nVidia graphics card just to be sure that that wasn't updated also.
- Restart
- After restarting, the system will try to install the intel update for the graphics driver but will fail (because of steps 5&6)
- Using wushowhide, block the Intel’s driver update that it just tried to install (that way it won't reattempt on next reboot)
- Enable auto driver updates (System-> Advanced system settings-> Hardware-> Device Installations Settings)

Thank you very much Ashers (and papaFX). The only issue was the the andrew08 driver install kept failing. I ended up upgrading the driver through the device manager and selecting the "Let me pick from a list of device drivers..".
BTW, the Vidock works fine! -
That's great. As I mentioned, the only problem I noticed was that automatic brightness no longer works - does it work for you?

Instructions for installing Win10 in a VAIO VPCZ1
[/QUOTE]
Thank you papaFX for the excellent guide, which so far is working well for me too. However, when I try to install the ProtectorSuite 2012, I get an error saying "Windows Biometric Service" needs to be enabled. There are various ways explained on the net on how to do that (gpedit.msc, registry fix), but the error
stays. Other posts mention that Protector Suite is no longer functioning under Win10.
It seems however that you managed to get it working. What did you have to do? I don't follow what you mean with the Authentec 2.21 package - what is that?
Many thanks for your advice. -
If you just want to use Windows Hello (windows logon via biometrics) you are good to go with the Windows default driver.Juerg likes this. -

But where i can find the bios hack and all drivers for download?
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/index.php?posts/10382532 -
it works on japaneze version? i have VPCZ11AFJ
-
-
Is not so easy to follow that steps, do you have a different way or maybe a video?
-
Anybody with new steps and download links?
-
Which steps are you having trouble with? If it is the BIOS HACK itself, then ComputerCowboy's excellent thread is for you. Everything else is a piece of cake. Let me know which links aren't working, and I'll try to help you out.

anytimer, do you know how to disable the notification when you press the s-button in windows 10?
-
also, I am not able to make automatic brightness work. The display driver installed properly, The brightness sensor work for keyboard, but not display. Windows do not have auto brightness settings as well. I have selected in VAIO Control Center auto adjust but have no effect.
Normal brightness by hotkey/slider work properly.
am I missing any specific package from Sony to make it work?
My setting: BIOS VGA policy = Static, Patcher + latest Nvidia driver -
VAIO Control Center has a section where you can assign actions to the S buttons. Try playing around with those.
Regarding automatic brightness control, I don't use it myself - found it to be rather irritating. You could try Power options -> Advanced settings -> Display settings - Enable adaptive brightness. Once it is enabled there, VAIO Control Center automatic brightness control might start working. Let us all know how you get on. -
Thanks. The notification has been disabled.
Adaptive brightness do not actually let the screen auto adjust itself. Settings>System>Display should show the option of enable or disable adaptive brightness, obviously windows don't feel that I have sensors to detect light....
