    Hi guys:

So i've been using the VPCZ1, and everything has been working great. but recently, i've been having this problem where out of the blue, my internet access gets cut off. And I cannot reconnect to the connect because it shows that there are no available networks. I have to restart the computer to get it to fix itself. 2nd time it happened was today. I'm not sure what the problem is so all help is appreciated. Thanks

Hmm, wireless problems are some of the most difficult because there can be so many different causes, and different ones for different hardware. It does seem like a driver issue, if you reset it, it might connect again and you don't have to reboot. But that's not the cause, which can be incompatibility with the wireless router, inadequate / incorrect implementation of the security protocol (e.g. WPA), etc. My suggestion is to try the driver from Intel (which is what I use), try a different router, try with no-encryption (for a while). If your router is configured not to broadcast the base station ID (aka network name), try turning it on. If the problem is easily reproducible, then the cause(s) can be determined faster.

See if disabling interface (WLAN) and then enabling it fixes the problem without reboot. If it does then you can later create a batch file, something like:

netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" DISABLED
netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" ENABLED

This is just off the top of my head, I'm not 100% sure of the syntax.

alright...so this problem has been occuring all day today. btw I am using a linksys wireless g router. WRT54G to be specific. I tried switching to the latest drivers provided by intel. Those ended up having the same problem. And whenever I lose connect to networks, I have to "re-run" the driver set installation utility (i select the repair option) and i reconnect. I tried for awhile with no encryption for awhile however and seemed to not have any problems for the time being. But i don't want to keep my network always without security. And when i tried WPA i ended up with the same problem as what I usually use (wep). Please help guys!

i wonder what could be causing this.... so Zimbros your using the Intel 13.1.1.1 driver? This is for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN that you updated right?

So the issue is there regardless of the network, or is it just with the WRT54G? If it's the latter, you can try updating the firmware. Do other laptops have trouble keeping their connections with the WRT54G?

Edit: if you're interested in changing the firmware and are feeling brave, try Tomato (please double-check the model):
    http://www.polarcloud.com/firmware

But if you brick the wireless router, please don't kill me

I have a VPC-Z11X9E/B (with Intel 6200 AGN Wireless card) and I'm facing exactly the same issue as Runee1000.

Wireless crashing very often and I need to desactivate and reactivate Network card for it to work again, until the next crash :(

I've noticed a flooding of 5005 messages from the source NETw5s64 in the Windows System Journal, wondering if that's related ...

When you say "help me" do you mean that it solved the problem or it happens less frequently ?

I had the same issue.. I'm gonna try to downgrade drivers too. Upgrading certainly didn't help.

I also noticed one strange thing- last night I turned on wireless and also plugged my wired internet in and left it the whole night. Basically it was running wired (although wireless was connected- no data was being transferred via wireless though). However, wireless did not disable itself.

Anyway hope the downgraded drivers work.

EDIT: My router is not the same as others are using: it's WPN824 v2.

Downgraded to driver version 13.0.0.107, working fine for the past 5 hours. Very promising. The previous driver (the most updated one) was failing within 15 minutes.

I have same problem as well with my S.
Whenever I get disconnected, I use the same script "netsh ..." to reactive the wireless card.
I also look at the Intel® Wireless Event Viewer and I see this error:
It looks like it's a heating problem. It often happens when I try downloading something which is big with Internet Download Manager. When I get reconnect, if I continue to download, I will get disconnected one or two minutes later (as you can see in the Event Viewer).
It really pisses me off. I'm using the lastest driver 13.1.1.1. I wonder downgrading will help. I'll try it later.

Yup it was the same thing with me. Disabling and reenabling the adaptor worked, but the hardware switch didn't. I upgraded to 13.1.1.1 first, but that didn't help. My usage pattern never switched- have been downloading a lot of big things all the time, but never had this problem until recently. And once it appeared, it recurred at smaller and smaller intervals.

Now going onto 7 hours with the downgraded driver. No problems.

    Here's what I'm thinking:

Drivers get updated for three reasons: (1) improved stability (2) additional features (3) improved performance.

We know that (1) cannot be the reason, because the old driver does not crash. I don't know about (2), but I can't think of too many features related to a wireless card that'll increase its temperature as much as (3). For (3), increased performance must mean it can transmit at a higher rate. For a wireless chip, significant power is consumed with transmission. Thus, with a higher transmission rate, the heat generated will go up. If this is indeed a heat issue, these solutions should help.

To test this hypothesis, we might try reducing the wireless rate (e.g. use 802.11b). Alternatively, we can reduce the transmit power. Both these settings are available under the 'Advanced' tab of the wireless card's properties menu.

In my Intel ProSet WiFi Event Viewer, I had several messages saying the wireless adapter's thermal throttling was active (I assume meaning activated). I'm trying the latest driver and also upgraded the ProSet tools. See what happens.

I used to have this problem with 13.1.1.1 and the older version drivers, and now im running 13.2.1.5, without the problem anymore.

However, here is another problem that I find annoying:

when you wake up the laptop from sleep, the wireless networks cannot be connected for a minute or two. Within the first or second minute after wakeup, the laptop cannot connect to any network, nor does it reconnect to the previous network automatically after wakeup. After a minute or so, manually connect to the network, it works.

This sucks, as I use sleep function a LOT, while this issue severely affect the productivity of this laptop...
