H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You, sir, have a defective LCD panel. Sony will repair that under warranty as that is certainly more than 8 pixels.
-
I can confirm that this will be repaired under warranty if you have not caused that by physical treatment. If there are no traces showing that, you will get your lcd replaced.
Tip: Make sure you document the condition of your body and display assembly carefully before sending it to sony in order to have evidences when they are sending you the device back not properly reassembled (replacing the lcd is kinda hard since the flat panel is taped to the bezel. When they don't properly reattach the new one to your bezel again, you might see your bezel being wavy and not closing perfectly flat on the palmrests again).
Pls keep us updated on how the repair went on. -
The refreshed Z's lcd is just held by only plastic..
no double sided taped found.....
But, I am about 75% sure that there will be scratches when u receive ur laptop back............. -
Today i go to Sony Service Center headquarter in Thailand.
He saids this problem cause from lcd break inside and it can't happen if you not doing anything to it.
The fact is that defect line happen when my notebook stay on my table for 2 days no movement to anywhere in that times at all.
but the customer assistant didn't care about my story even no trace and no evidence to show that the problem cause from physical impact or anything cause from me.
He saids you can't get repair from vaio care and he send this case to vaio insurance program instead.
That mean i must wait 2 weeks to see the insurance results.
If insurrance approved i still must pay 10% of LCD panel price that i didn't do anything wrong with it (lcd panel price is $430)
but if insurrance not approved i must pay the whole lcd panel price.
So if anyone know what the real problem of my case is. Please give detail to me then i will go to tell him again that it's not my fault at all -
That is absolutely ridiculous... What I see in your pictures is, that you got a bunch of dead pixels on your screen, they row up in a line. The reason for that must be, that the TFT is defective. This is usually not caused by physical load, rather it is caused by electrical damage.
I would tell them you got several dead pixels and you want to get that repaired since your laptop is classified in the pixel error class II. If they tell you this must be caused by physical damage, I would honestly tell them this is ridiculous and ask them to show you the corresponding impact traces or anything. You know better how you handle your laptop then they do.
If they won't do nothing, ask for the manager, write a mail to sony headquarters etc. Dont let them play games with you. -

That's why I treat tech support like I do. Most don't have a bleedin clue about anything that isn't how to plug in a flash drive or press the power button. If the person doing the inspection were even half way competent, he could easily look at the LCD/Bezel/Outside top lid and anywhere on the notebook that would indicate any hint of mistreatment. What your pictures show is plain simple dead pixels from a defective panel, and that is 100% covered under warranty. Go over that idiots head, and get someone else to look at your notebook. -
in case of vaio laptops, SONY KOREA replaces LCD for once before warranty expires (freeofcharge). If it comes international warranty, go traveling to korea

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem. Just woke up the laptop one day to see two similar lines like yours which wouldn't disappear. I had managed my laptop very carefully, no drops or hits or anything similar.
Called Vaio service, the asked me to boot into BIOS and see if the lines remained there (which they did) and took in the laptop for repair no questions asked. The Fullhd screen was then replaced under warranty and all is well.
Makes you think though, the extended warranty is perhaps not a bad thing after all. Can't imagine that this is cheap outside of warranty. -
Can you tell me what problem that sony wrote when they replace your screen.
PS. My friend will go to Singapore soon. Does anyone know they can repair it? and what the operate time? thx u. -
I'm a Korean myself. Just a New Zealand citizen since a toddler. I bought my Z26 from New Zealand, thought about getting the LCD changed in Korea during a one month visit for engineering work. It was showing some dead pixels so I thought why not? It was within warranty, and I had that international warranty thing registered (mine was two years, as Sony New Zealand had a free-promo going when I bought my Z26). That plus, Korea's world-renown for warranty services.
Long story short, Sony Korea wanted 480000 won, which equates to about US$400. They said they had to charge me since my model was from Oceania (then what the hell was my international warranty for???). Then they kindly suggested I do the repair in New Zealand, as that would be free via the local warranty. I did that repair back home in New Zealand, and it took 15 days (Sony told me face to face it would take 5, tops). My Z came back with a few scratches on the keyboard (nothing big though), and a wobbly power button barrel; that was replaced under warranty again recently.
Well, at least I got my extended and international warranty for free. I'm personally sucking Sony dry at the moment (had the LCD replaced, more recently the DVD writer and the power barrel as well. My keyboard and fan are starting to act up making high-pitched sounds, planning on getting those replaced soon); thank goodness for my free, two year warranty.
VPCZ11 FullHD screen problem. Does anyone have this problem like me ?
