I've had 3 of these laptops (1 from bestbuy, 2 from bestbuy when I returned the defective first, 3 when I returned the second when I found a much better deal on new egg). All 3 occasionally get very small, almost invisible, diagonal lines across the screen. They happen several times a minute for just a second or two.I can barely notice it, but its there. Anyone have any ideas?

Known issue and it's always there. when you don't see it it's because your eyes have adjusted. There's a bazillion threads on this, nothing you can do.

There's a ton of speculation. Refresh patterns of led's, polarizer filter, you name it.

Maybe you can try playing with the refresh rate or color depth... and see if you experience it in other settings? I'm just going out on a limb here.

those lines sometimes appearing only in my first few bootups.

however after using the machines for a month. I never see them poping up again during bootup. Vaio never update any video drivers for VPCZ128GG

Never see any lines after boot up, even flipping the monitor.
