Reading up a little about 'everyone' already retiring their old Z2's, I was wondering: Has anyone already succesfully installed Windows 10 on a VPCZ2?
I'm asking since I'm hesitant about doing the upgrade on my main computer (Z2) at Day One, maybe someone is using their old Z2 to check Windows 10 out.

Any thoughts and experience appreciated :)

(Currently downloading W10 32 bit for my older BZ12. If anyone's interested about that experience I can comment about that later)

I just upgraded my Z3 yesterday. The mouse and keyboard freeze every time I come out of Standby mode, the logging on screen takes forever to let me type in my password, and the fan keeps running loud nonstop (might be due to the upgrade, but it just keeps going even 24 hours later).

forget about upgrading to Windows 10 until the autumn or fall season. Sony has posted a notice to postpone the Windows 10 upgrade as they have not yet posted any Windows 10 compatible drivers & software on this page:
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/os10upgrade.pl?

wait til either October 2015 or November 2015 for Win10 compatible drivers & software from Sony

I checked on European Sony sites and the VPCZ2 will not get driver updates:

The same is shown for the SVZ. Was the SVZ shipped in some regions with Windows 8 pre-installed?

I don't have any of those issues with my SVZ. The upgrade worked great. I did upgrade from 8.1. I had to disable some touchpad multigesture settings to make the curse non-jerky, but other than that it's been performing great.

Idle temps are in the low to mid 50's while the fan is barely audible.

Now that you've availed the free upgrade offer by upgrading your OS to Windows 10, you can go for a clean install. Don't enter any key when asked - just skip or do this later.

A clean install is highly recommended in solving issues like those described by you. Also, try disabling 'fast start' in power options.

I had Windows 8.1 running and upgraded to Windows 10.
The only issue I had was related to the graphics driver, I couldn't change the screen's brightness. I managed to solve this by uninstalling the HD3000 driver, which led Windows to install it's own one after restarting. This might cause issues with the PMD, I didn't check that yet. (Was using the official Sony Windows 8 compatible AMD/Intel driver, if that really turns out to be incompatible I might have to check leshcat's hacked drivers again although they never were as stable as the official one).

Apart from that everything works great, Touchpad, Screen, Fan, Battery, Wifi etc etc, no issues whatsoever!

I first updated to Windows 8.1 Pro, and installed all the drivers available for that. Then I updated to WIndows 10 and everything works as expected. I've also tried the Power Media Dock and that works fine also outputing through both laptop and external monitors.

Maybe once you upgrade to Windows 10, try applying the Windows 8.1 drivers available on the Sony website?

I have upgraded my VPCZ2 form 8.1 Pro to 10, I couldn't be more pleased, did not have to install or reinstall any drivers. I had it running for about 2 weeks now, everything works, I was worried about the PMD, but this works better in 10 than it ever did in 8.1 (no more ATi messages before undocking, no more erratic undocking). Fan speeds work, all in all pleasantly surprised...oh and fantastic OS too.

    Hello!
How did you update to windows 8.1? Do I need to update to 8.1 first, then to 10?
I'm currently running 7 pro, using PMD - for games mainly, would be awful if I'm no longer able to.
Are drivers for Windows 8.1 work for 10? Mainly drivers for PMD that I'm interested in.
    Thanks

upgrading to 8.1 before 10 shouldn't be necessary. What's important is that you use the 8.1 drivers in windows 10 (from the vaio support website).

Also, you can always roll back the installation. So get 10 for free, upgrade, and if something is broken you can role back the installation and go back to 7.

So, PMD works with Windows 10 and Sony drivers for 8.1?
What about fan speeds? I read on the forums, that fans work like crazy after the update.
    Thanks

haven't noticed any extra fan noise. The Thermal control strategy options work in Vaio Control center and i have it set to Silent. CPU temps are 54 - 65 under normal load and can't hear the fan in my office.

Did you VPCZ2 originally come with Windows 7 Pro?
    If yes, your upgrade step was Win7Pro -> Win8.1Pro -> Win10
or you did Clean install of Win8.1Pro and then upgrade to Win10
    Thanks

Hello Z2 owners. Just wanted to let you know that the Windows 10 upgrade from Win 7 works like a charm in my vaio Z235GL. My biggest fear, the power media dock, is working perfectly and the release button is now faster than it was with the previous OS. If you're using ethernet, would recommend to download the drivers from realtek's web page. To get the touchpad gestures running, you'll need to download the driver from synaptics web page. That's all for now, good luck with your machines.

So, you need to upgrade to windows 8 first? I guess, you have to pay for licence, right? Is there any way to directly upgrade to Windows 10, or you need to upgrade to windows 8, then to windows 8.1, then to windows 10?
    Thanks

You can upgrade from windows 7 pro to windows 10 , adn then install the windows 8 drivers.

One thing I have noticed is sometimes when the laptop is waking up, the screen flickers for a bit and then when i login, the internal display is "disabled" in device manager. It works fine but the brightness settings don't do anything. Enabling it in device manager seems to fix it.
This is only when coming out of sleep but happens frequently.

Try turning off fast start in power options. Man, I should bottle that advice and sell it as a 'cure all'. LOL

This stops the flickering issue, but not the display being disabled. Which driver are you using for the display?

I have a VPCZ1 - different display adapter. I've encountered similar issues though. Try playing around with test mode - try permanently enabling test mode and see if things get any better.

Original Windows 7 installation, textbook upgrade to Windows 10. Simply shocking: *everything* works including AMD graphics in the PMD. Only two issues:
[1] When docked and Vaio screen is up, Vaio screen is blank (as it was historically with Win7) but backlight remains on, and
[2] Text is noticeably fuzzy in some apps, ironically, Device Manager being one of them

Tried the beta Catalyst driver from the AMD website, no improvement. Suggestions and questions welcome.

Did you try the official Win8 driver from Sonys website? I don't have these issues, the only bug is the display being disabled after disconnecting from the PMD as described above, but that's an easy fix.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by changing the scaling level from 125% to 100%. It's under: Control Panel > Display > "set a custom scaling level"

Anyone else had a sussessfull windows 10 upgrade experience? I'm thinking of either buying new SSD and upgrading to windows 10, hence another 2-3 years working on my vaio, or moving on to another laptop. The thing is, that new models, which aree worth it and have the same power / built quality are again in 3000$ region.
    Thanks

The only two problems I encountered were the 'scroll down by making clockwise circles on the trackpad' and the external hdmi resolution that doesn't go to 1080

I haven't looked into the latter due to lack of time, but the scrolling works after uninstalling generic trackpad driver and downloading W8.0 driver from vaio site :)
