Hi all,
I am interested in starting a thread about experiences with W7 and Vaio's. Not sure if this should be done by series or not...
Let me just start with this:
I am using a Z36GD (similar to Z69 series in the US...mine is an Asian model).
Centrino 2 Duo P9600 2.66 GHz
GeForce 9300M GS 256MB memory
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM*3
320 GB*4 (Serial ATA, 7200 rpm)
Currently I am dual booting Vista 64 Bit Business SP1 and W7 64 Bit Ultimate Build 7068.
I tweaked the Vista OS a bit...still takes 90 seconds from power on to desktop (when cursor stops clocking). Shuts down every time in about 12 seconds (again after tweaks)
But...more interested in mastering W7. I am beginning to play with it now. Some initial problems I can report are:
- FN-F3 for volume down does not work
- FN-F4 for volume up does not work
(but FN-F2 for mute does work!...as does FN with SCR LK, Page up/down, End & Home)
- Eject button for optical drive does not work.
No show stoppers yets, but I really have done limited testing so far.
Anyhow, would love to here from other Z series owners or any Vaio users testing W7!
Cheers,
David

Correction....
Function keys are working for the volume, but the on-screen display that would appear before is gone.
FN-Brightness up/down keys are not working (of course tested when on battery power).
Anyone else using W7 yet on a Z or otherwise...? -
I am also running W7 7068 as the main (and only) os on my FZ. Specs in my signature.
As far as it goes, I totally prefer W7 over Vista. It's faster and everything seems to run just better, that's why, even though is in beta state, I use it as my main OS.
The only thing so far that doesn't work for me is the brightness on screen indicator.
Everything else works. But sometimes you adjust the brightness and it won't go all the way up or down. You hit fn + brightness down and it goes just one step down and no more. And sometimes it won't go up. So.. it works but not so great. I use a lot of power profiles so it's not a problem for me.
Also the on screen indicator does indeed appear sometimes. But it seems that it is totally random. Sometimes you change the brightness and the indicator is there, sometimes it is not. Sometimes it is there but you cant change it.
It's funny =P but everything else works flawlessly. -
I have an SR390/P9600/4gig ddr2-800/OCZ v2 120gig SSD, dual boot W7 and Vista SP1. Both OS's boot up in less than 30 seconds (W7 is about 5 seconds faster). I can get a little over 4 hours on battery with Vista, over 5 with W7. I prefer W7 and notice that the resolution is much better. W7 uses a different video driver, but still surprised that the resolution is not as good on Vista.

Yep. And the overall performance on just basic stuff is fast as well because of the SSD...
