Hey everyone, I've had this Vaio all in one Windows 7 PC for a few years and have always turned it on by using the 'Assist' button on the left hand side of the screen. That's the way the guys in the shop in HK turned it on (after much head scratching).

Using this button brings up a Vaio Care menu with options for recovery, restore or restart and log on. It being the 'Assist' button, it seems to be the button to press should you need special 'assistance'.

But there is also an 'On' button at the top right hand corner of the screen. But this button doesn't do anything from a cold start. The only button that will turn it on is the 'Assist' button.

Is there something wrong? I'd like to be able to start my PC without having the added clicks of choosing restart from the Vaio Care screen that comes up from using the Assist button.

Is there a setting in one of the (thousands of) Vaio software/ settings menus once booted up?

Thanks and hope I have explained what I mean well.

I found an online manual. Can you believe it tells you how to shut down...how to turn it on in Vaio Care mode using the Assist button...but doesn't tell you how to turn it on normally?

Look at the keyboard functions - maybe there is a key or key combination that turns it on.

    I found this:
    1. Plug your VAIO computer into an AC outlet.
    2. Press and hold down the (Power) button until the power indicator light turns on in green.
    3. Your VAIO computer is turned on, and Windows starts after a while.
    Note:
If you press and hold down the (Power) button for more than four seconds, your VAIO computer will not turn on.
Press the (Power) button lightly, and release it immediately when the power indicator light turns on.
Do not touch the touch screen when turning on your VAIO computer as it may cause the computer to malfunction. (Touch screen equipped models)

Interesting...I tried pressing and holding but nothing happened. That's a good find though...I hadn't spotted that in the manual as yet. Will try it when I get home.

No go. The button seems inoperable
