does anyone use this? any merit to using the super battery care function (keeps charge at 50%) when using AC power most of the time?

No, when using AC power just remove your battery from your laptop!
And use only the 80% option, that's the one I use...
It helps keeping your battery at good conditions longer by limiting full battery cycles...

These days the power icon in my lappy displays "99% available plugged in, not charging". Why is this?

i think the battery saver function is neat, but 20% is a pretty big loss of time. i wish i didnt have classes back to back to back....otherwise i would utilize that function.

OK, I think it's the best thing to do, and it' not so annoying...
If you let your battery out of your laptop for more than a week or so, store it at about 40% of charge, I read that it's the best thing to do to keep it longer at it's best state.
