I am in a quandary. I am wanting a new laptop, and am stuck. The lenovos seem quite good machines (I have some hands on at a local retailer) but the Sonys do to. Lenovo, DDR3, on site warranty option. Sony... screen reputation..

I am just unsure. My configurations are similarly priced, but... and why would Sony not offer the P processor family?

    Any thoughts?

sony also has onsite warranty, and a great one too!!!

the screen will be better on the sony, but the lenovo will have better built quality and battery life... if i were to pick, I would say the lenovo

edit: also just read that the battery wiggles a lot in the CR! so much actually that if you tilt it back unlocked, it will turn off!

Sony CR is being replaced by Sony CS series.

CS series is a fashionable laptop.
    T400 is a business laptop.

    So I see I can pre-order a CS with a (probably non-firm) availability date of 10/8.

Is it a good idea to be the first to order something like this? It doesn't seem a huge change from the CR, but I still would hate to be the 'testing phase' guy.

I don't think you'll really be in the testing phase. That hasn't been true in the past for other Sony models.

But you could pick up CR at discounted prices probably.

And you're right the differences aren't that big.

Thanks Phil... It does seem that Sony has a decent rep here and elsewhere. I just have been burned being the first to buy a new thing (not nec. computer)

But you recommended the Lenovo :p

Besides, I have the same post on the Lenovo forum... and no responses yet.

So... do I wait for the CS or do I try to get a deal on a CR...
    Hmmm.
I have a Sony Style store nearby, as well as a MicroCenter. I would love, if I went Sony, to pick up rather than order...if the config was good.

I picked mine up in a sony style store too... the only downside is that you have to pay tax, and you cant configure it....

btw, I am selling mine, you probably wont want it, buts its worth a try... :D

edit: idk why the link doesnt work, but its a unused refurbished sony sz 460n/c with a extended battery and 1 year left on accidental warranty

Was the SZ the precursor to the TZ? Or Z? I see the TZ has an overheating issue? And, I see people writing about having DDR3, on-site warranty, etc. but if I try to custom configure something, I don't see these options.

It also seems loose batteries are not confined to the CR. Has there been any scuttlebutt that the loose bat issue is corrected in CS?

the sz is the precursor to the z,
    http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h1265.html

are you ordering in the us? try to go to the next page or something

I do not know if the issue is corrected in the CS, since pretty much no one has it yet... but i would think you could just put a piece of tape in there....
