    Vaio CR questions

    Hello,
    A couple of questions about the CR from a new guy.
    1) Is there any way to turn off the pulsating LED? If I put the machine in hibernate, I don't want the light flashing.
    2) Can I make the speakers louder? My old S150 had a separate speaker level setting in the BIOS, plus it was amazingly loud anyway, but I haven't been able to find anything like that on the CR, and it's a little soft for me (I'm deaf on one side and headphones usually bother me).

    Regarding your question #1, there is no way to turn off/disable the pulsating LED (officially referred to in the user manual as "Illuminating Lamp"). I spent about 3 hours last night researching this in the settings on my VGNCR120E and on-line to no avail. One gentlemen who did a review on the VGNCR120E for a PC magazine mentioned it was annoying and said, "luckily, it can be turned off", so I kept digging and just couldn't find how to do it anywhere (not even in Sony's KB); therefore, I contacted Sony via a live chat this morning and they confirmed it CANNOT be turned off/disabled. The fact that it pulses when in either hibernation or sleep mode and plugged in is "the normal functionality", meaning it can't be disabled. I asked them to please mention that fact in the Sony KB. Hopefully they will, because in my research last night, I found a *lot* of folks are trying to figure out how to do it.

    You can turn off the light via Vaio Centrel.

    Yes it can be turned off. I turned mine off as I didn't see a purpose for it. Here are the actual directions from Sony. I found this in under 5sec by using "Help and Support" that is on my laptop - amazing how many questions are answered there.

    Changing the default illumination lamp activity
    The illumination lamp on the bottom of your computer illuminates depending on your actions or the computer's status. You can change this default activity of the lamp to make it stay unlit by following these steps:

    Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Control Center.
    The VAIO Control Center window appears.

    Click Illumination LED Setting in Others.

    Click to cancel the Enable the Illumination LED check box.

    Click OK.
