Recently bought the laptop and in windows it is great. When playing a film or playing a game, however, the viewing angle is clearly shown as being poor in darker scenes. With a slight movement the screen can appear washed out or too dark and there appears to be no happy medium.
Can anyone else with a CW confirm this? During bootup, for example, it shows the windows 7 loading screen with the black background which is completely washed out and gray by the backlight. My Lenovo T61 and HP work laptops don't do this but then again they don't have such a bright backlight.
Other than the poor viewing angles and battery drain, the laptop is just what I was after. This could be a result of having an LED backlit screen as I have never had one, but surely the backlight type wouldn't make a difference?
I thought the advantage of a glossy screen was blacker blacks? I can only see things in dark scenes if the screen is washed out, otherwise they just blend in and I can only see people's faces! Is the screen really this poor? I have the 1366 res one.

Welcome to the world of crappy LED black levels/angles. There are fantastic LED screens out there (macbook pro, Vaio Z, some alienware models, some dell XPS models) but the vast majority are like this, because even sony is forced to use a worse screen to be competive because EVERYONE uses them. Even more frustrating: most brands/models don't even offer a good screen as an upgrade.
If you want a really good screen now a days, you basically have to pay $1600-$2000. It took me a long time to realize this, because for 4 years i used a notebook with a gorgeous CCFL panel, and just didn't realize how things had changed.
Vaio CW poor screen viewing angle?
