Opinions?
I'm just about to pull the trigger on a top spec E14 but have just been told about this touchscreen option coming.
The Sony advisor thinks it will be a £100 option. Will this make Win8 more usable do you think? Will there be any other use for it other than navigating the Metro interface?
Not sure whether to wait or not :/

They already have the touchscreen windows 8 sony here in the US at BestBuy. I do not like Windows 8, but then again I have barely used it, I will say that windows 8 makes more sense with a touch screen. After getting frustrated at how slow a mouse was with windows 8 I went for the touch screen and found it to work much better. I will say that the new e series vaio 14 inch with touchscreen looks really nice. It may like like the older 2012 model, but it has been massaged a little, and the keyboard on the windows 8 laptops look nice. If you are going to get windows 8 anyway, and you like the sony vaio e 14 inch, wai for the touchscreen. The Bestbuy one was 1600x900 res also, and had an AMD 7670M gpu, with 2gb vram.

I don't know whether I'm keen on the idea of wiping off fingerprints from the screen all the time but I'm also concerned about using Windows 8 after reading all the bad reviews online about it.
If I do pay the extra for the touch I will want to be making use of it all the time and for it to become natural but will it on an 'old fashioned' laptop which isn't a tablet? -
Using the scren as a touch screen would bother me also, unless it was gorilla glass like the macs, were the sreen never gets touched, I have no problem firmly cleaning the screen on my GF's Mac. I do not recall if the screen was covered on the Sony, I will go back to Best Buy on Monday for fun, I go all the time anyway. I will post what I find. If the screen is covered then people should not have any problems using it as a touch screen.

Looked at it again, the laptop has a good cover over the screen, probably not gorilla glass but it felt sturdy. This laptop looks great, if I had to buy something today, it would be on the top of my list, but I really like the screen size of a 15.6, so who knows.

I am also a little disappointed in the performance of the graphics card, and the switchable graphics is a pain in the butt. I preferred my older E series 15" 1366x768 screen. Wish I hadn't of sold that now.
And, by the way, for those of you wondering - yes it will get tons of fingerprint streaks on it after touching it. I think I may take mine back and order a custom-made 15" E series without the touchscreen. The only thing that bothered me about my old 15" E was that the keyboard had way too much flexing in it.
